Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Question I need help!!!

Yes, I do alot of downloading weekly. To the extent of over 100 files weekly. I have two questions to ask both are very important to me. I hope someone can answer them to make my life a bit easier. One, I bought a subscription to IShare it (aka Imp3it) .This program said I was paying to be legal to download files. Does any one know if LimeWirePro is too?. I was concerned that RIAA was going to track me because of the volume of new stuff I get weekly. So I figured it was only fair to pay them something for the hundrdeds of files I have already acquired. One of the reasons I changed platforms was because of being firewalled by a router as well as Computer Associates EZ Firewall (which I am told is an old version of Zone Alarm).I am trying to learn all about these complex things. The reason why I went from IShare it to Imp3it, was because I couldn't get the 1st to launch ever. At first I had some success with Imp3it,but then I had to play with the advance settings and half of the time it wouldnt connect. So I viewed the email I was sent when I joined and I found the Limewire Pro .EXE .I decided it was the last thing I could do.
I am having mixed results. Some of the problems I have encountered are ...with IMp3it, it ranks the files from 1-4. Anything
higher than a 2 means the file isnt bogus. I don't see that at all on Limewire. How can I tell which files are authenic and which are fake? .I am aware of the file size/ quality of file ratio which must be proportionate (otherwise I know its a fake). My second question is a bunch of these sources since I am unclear to which of them remaining are real don't start for many reasons or go into the to be downloaded section but never start. I have close to 1000 of these in the first week I'm on LimeWire. My question is this. Is there anyway for the system to automatically search for all files that remain, so I don't have to click for hours to get them to research for the ones not complete?. I do not want to go crazy clicking find sources individually. If you can address any or all of my concerns. I would be greatful. Lastly , I would like to check all of the settings to both my Linksys Router, as well as my EZ Firewall so all of my programs work well. Please speak in laymans terms so I can figure out where things can run alot smoother. Also I need to figure this out for Imp3it, as well as Winmx(for both sets of questions). Please let me know asap so I can get away from my painful experience with all 3 services and begin to finally enjoy them! . Any opinions as to which of the services I use would also help me evaluate which to continue with.

Thanks.

Wow I got caught out. I posted a reply in Tips & Tricks & it wouldn't let me post. hmm so this is why! Naughty naughty!!! It helps if you follow the forum rules - they're posted at the top of every section! http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29

I'll answer one of your questions. When you choose to dwnld a file, LW needs to accumulate enough resources for that file to begin dwnlding. For that reason it's best to choose a file that has multiple sources. But keep in mind that everybody has some form of limited upld bandwidth. Also, within LW they may filter out certain users by speed, connection type or no. of files they're sharing (be that 5, 50, or 500, etc.) & if a user's upld bandwidth is already taken up with other people dwnlding from them, then you'll get a busy or put in waiting list. Also connections vary from dial-up to T1 which are generally company owned. There are so many reasons why a person might not find it easy to connect to a particular source(s). Local net traffic near you or them can affect this also. People are also constantly going offline. So when you do a search, some time later those results may not be relevant any more for that reason (gone stale.) If your LW is well configured, more often than not, some time after you open LW & it settles down, some incomplete files will start to dwnld. Some days you need to 'baby-sit' LW by doing searches to find enough sources & resources for files to start dwnlding. See this link for some hints on effective search techniques.
You can press the Resume button for some files to start dwnlding. However, they will search every 5 mins or so & if they can't find sources will eventually give up. When you open LW all files will take it in turn to find any immediate sources. Separate searching can help this process.

The reason LW doesn't auto search frequently is b/c the gnutella network would simply over-flood itself & as a result would slow down to a crawl even for high bandwidth users. So the designers of LW have tried to be gnutella environment healthy & concientious by limiting auto searches (such as when you open LW & when you use the resume function) to a limited no. & no. of times.
I don't know if this will apply in your case but re: corrupted files, have a look at this (click on link.) As a piece of advice, add the words .exe, .jpg, & .wmv to your keyword filters (LW menu Tools-Options-Filters & Keyword.) You can add/delete these any time, but it will help to stop spam clogging up your search energy & results.

Umm actually he is a forum moderator. And they get a bit touchy when you don't follow the forum rules (all forums have rules.) Wording him off won't please the moderator very much. Your thread will be answered if it follows the guidelines (eg: one thread per problem only.) If u don't follow the guidelines, chances are it won't be answered. You got lucky. Also, most questions asked on this forum have been answered at some time. So it's expected you search for answers to your problem 'before' you post a new thread.
Actually I have 1st cousins in Syracuse. I'm not from US by the way. Hope the suggestions help.

Lord a few things. One I did read those links and it didnt tell me anything I already knew. You haven't addressed my concern specifically. I am looking for the technical side explained in laymens terms. I am in no way a beginner with these programs. I am far from advanced eithier. I kinda teach myself as I go. I was hoping to get specific information to help me with my problems. Anyone else know??? . Also I hadnt read the rules previous to the posting. In this world where everything is so complex I dont have time for details unless they help me achieve results. There are way too many rules in our society which prevent us from achieving the results we desire. As for you having relatives near me thats cool. I won't go into that on here tho as its not allowed, if you like email me!

As for legality, do a search on the forum for legal & illegal. There is no ranking of whether a file is corrupt or not. However, some sources offer a high % of corrupt files. Filter them out. Another alternative to baby-sitting your computer is to resume them. However I would only do this as a last resort. It has a draining fx on the connection to the gnutella network. It's also not healthy for the netwk b/c it increased traffic multiple times by sending out continual searches. ALso, the 1st post of the following thread 'might' help: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1
