Unhappy please help- progress problem

ok. this is my first time here. ive been using limewire for some time. i was cleaning my computer files yesterday, and cleaned all of the 'corrupted files' out of my incompletes folder. i have about 50 files still there, all with significant amounts of progress saved. when i opened limewire today, all the files i was saving were gone. i found them in the library. hit 'resume'. they all resumed, but back at 0 progress. i still have the originals in the incomplete file and limewire is set up to download to that same folder. i dont know what else i can do to get limewire to acknowledge the progress. some of these were hard to get and so i dont want to give up.
please help
thanks

Hi, marypatric...

1st, don't necessarily panic !

You probably only need to 'rename' the partial files...

Hang on here for some others to respond with more info... In the meantime, do NOT do any Hard Disk Defragmenting, OK ?

I would happily answer your query if you were using BearShare but I am not familiar enough with the day to day ops with LimeWire to be confident with a general answer regarding the renaming of temp (partially completed Downloads) files... I assume that the process must be the same for both clients...
But it is best for you to wait for some other regular LW users to reply to you.

-------------

Last - As you can see, I have moved your post to the LimeWire Forum...

Probably the best way to delete files from our incomplete folder is to delete them via LW's Library window (but you need to be VERY careful to select the right ones!!!) But you need to delete them from the LW's Dwnld window 1st before you do this. That way the download.dat file which records their progress is updated. By deleting outside of LW & with them still listed on LW's dwnld present dwnld list, I guess it has upset LW's dwnld prefs.

Solution, I do not normally recommend to force resume files b/c as you found, a high % of the time they begin at 0%. The safest way is to manually search for the sources & reselect them to dwnld. If you haven't chosen the right one, then delete it from the dwnld window & select another from the search results. Likewise, this is what you should do now. Delete them from the dwnld window. Search for their resources & dwdld them as you normally would. Again, if they start at 0%, you know you haven't got the right one. There's a much greater chance of successfully getting them to resume where they should resume doing it this way, but, it takes a lot of your time b/c you have to do each one individually. You need to be patient & persevere. There's no 100% chance this will succeed but in my experience it usually works for me.

The technique I suggested can work & more successfully than force resuming, but, sometimes if the dwnld preferences are corrupt. Then there's nothing you can do.
Force Resume makes LW try to find the 1st source it can even if it isn't always the right one. It can also play havoc with your connection quality if you force resume a great no. of files b/c they are continually searching out every few mins.

hi
thanks for your ideas. i tried these and they havent been successful. force resume isnt working on any of them, and i tried one at a time. also, im sure i have found the same files in search, due to their long specific titles, but it also didnt get limewire to recognize the progress.
ALSO- i forgot something until now.
this morning, when i started the program up, it had me go through setup again. its never done this before. and my incomplete files are all in red.
this probably means something but i dont exactly know what.
thanks again

It sounds as though you've deleted your LW preferences. Either that or they've become corrupt. Alternatively see this post (click on link)
