Default Uploads - people trying to upload files i don't have

Although i am sharing 550 or so files, many or which show very few results when i do a search for them and are therefore quite 'rare', i almost never get anyone uploading from me, despite having a fast DSL connection. This seems strange, as when i have WinMX running, sharing the same files, i usually have two or three uploads going at any one time.

However, what i really want to know, is why so often Limwire tries to upload files from me that i do not have - a song by the corrs, for instance. It then says "file not found", of course. This happens really often, and doesn't seem to be affcted by me disconnecting and reconnecting (i tried this, because i read somewhere on here that i might have the ip address someone previously had used on Limewire, and that it therefore might think i was them, with their files).

I know uploads are possible - occasionally one happens and works, and the bug-report thing in options says true where it should (ie i have sorted my firewall and stuff out).

Anyone got any ideas why this is?

I have a suspicion you are running as an Ultrapeer (UP for short.) That means it's not so important for you to be uploading files. What you are doing is giving a small amount of bandwidth for others (leafs) so they can connect more easily. The files you see passing thru on the monitor window are other users downlding/uplding thru you. Running as a UP is very healthy for the network (as long as you're not firewalled.) The more the better.

Well it is possible to jump b/w both a UP & leaf at various times. LW will determine when the time is right depending on connection quality. Go to your LW's menu Tools>Options>Speed & see if there's a tick in the option for Disable UP Capabilities. If there is then I'm totally on the wrong track.

When you're a UP you'll notice xtra activity in your Monitor window.

Stief sent me this info.:

The easiest way is to look at the connections page: it should say Ultrapeer (leaf) in the space above the connections list

The second way in in the bug reports

Detail: Example

-- listing session information --
Current thread: AWT-EventQueue-0
Active Threads: 140
Uptime: 1:14:09:07
Is Connected: true
Number of Ultrapeer -> Ultrapeer Connections: 32
Number of Ultrapeer -> Leaf Connections: 29
Number of Leaf -> Ultrapeer Connections: 0
Number of Old Connections: 0
Acting as Ultrapeer: true
Acting as Shielded Leaf: false
