Limewire became corrupted

My Limewire Pro recently became corrupted to the point that it would launch everytime I started windows. I had to uninstall it. then I found out that I had been infected by the W32/Alcan.worm!p2p virus. I have McAfee AntiVirus installed and still can't get rid of this virus. Does anybody know of a program that will remove it? My virus program is just deleted or quarantining these files. This is very frustrating. I just thought people in the Limewire community would want to know about this virus as it is propagating inself throughout the P2P community.

Thanks! while this is it, my McAfee already quarantined over 2000 files, and this procedure does not work for me. However, I can get into the registry via the file I copied onto the desktop. I still can't get the Registry or the DOS window to come up normally. It keeps giving me that error code re 16-bit subsystem. And I cannot find my system32 folder in the Windows folder. System Restore is not an option as I do not have restore points back to early June anymore. Any other ideas? Should I repost this to another area?

Did you try the anti-virus program suggested. After all, it's hopefully just a one off situation. Why not send a pm to one of the members who came up with the solution to see if they have any constructive advice for you.

Thanks for your input and help. I got the problem solved. Someone gave me some advise and steps for using the program Killbox and it worked. Cleaned up the problem and am back to normal I hope.

this is not a reply, didn't want to start a new thread. has anyone figured out as to why most everything found under the program search is infected with a worm? every program of a type is of the same size which is an indicater that it has been infected.
