![]() If you decide it doesn't matter, what are the legal issues that could follow with this? Cddavis It is a part of the new LW for legal reasons. If you decide that it doesn't matter downlding copyright material, then tick Yes, & you can optionally then tick Always use this answer (& you won't be asked again.) If you don't want to take the risk then press no. But if you press no & choose always use that answer, you'll not be asked & not be able to downld files that would have requested information about licensing; thus you'll need to do one of 2 options: (1) Revert Popups to Default : Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>View>Popups & click revert to default. (2) Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Searching>Basic & decide whether to tick or untick "Show License Warning" (this is a setting you should do when 1st setting up.) ![]() Well ... legality of downlding copyright music varies depending on country & state. eg: AFAIK I believe in Canada it's ok so long as you don't share it. In some other countries it's not illegal unless you bootleg it & sell it (such as where I am.) But that all also depends upon whether the local authorities take notice. And the question is how can they find out unless they're actively seeking out people who do this. Are they going to bust a person who has downlded 50 copyright songs ... or would they prefer to seek those with multiple thousands so it would have a little more validity in court. Legality has been discussed numerous times on this forum. You should use the search button & type in something like legal, legality, riaa, etc. Here's an example There was an excellent thread on the topic but it disappeared. But there's more around. What the proposal is, is to ... well you can read more about it here RIAA going postal, affecting LW? ie: in the meantime, you take your own risks if you decide to downld copyright material. LimeWire does not condone downlding of copyright material. That's up to the individual user. And when you went to the LW site to downld the program, what did it ask you before you were able to downld it. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml / http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...loadfree.shtml |

![]() so basically you are saying that you can get the licences for them and all i can do is dowload copywrited material? this sounds a little bogus to me, but if i have to do it that way, then so be it. also, if i dowload the music without the licence, with "they" be able to know and can they track me? thanks for all the help |

![]() I'm not a lawyer, but I wouldn't rely on legal advice on a forum like this. Where to get trusted legal advice? A lawyer of course. Still, there are some good sites where lawyers are involved. Are you asking for a contact or a link for your country? btw, Coffee shops and bars are also bad places to get medical advice. ![]() The ability to attach a license to a file, and to be able to search for a license is still being tested and as a technical issue can be reasonably discussed. Around the world Intellectual Property laws are still being debated and tested by governments, and lobbyists are finding lots of work. |

![]() hello, evertime i try to download a song, it says that there is no license for the song.it happens for every song. does that mean that it is copyrighted?and i was wondering how to get songs that do have licenses if thats possible.so if someone can help me that would be great. |

![]() not many files have licenses attached yet (that feature is still pretty new), so you can't tell if an unlicensed file is OK to share or not. To search by license type, try an audio search and select "Creative Commons" to try some licensed files. You can also right click the result headers to turn on the license colum in the search results. |

![]() Is it illegal to download a file if LW says they can't find a licence? If it doesn't have a licence is it copyrighted? And for confirmation, if it doesn't have a licence or/and is copyrighted, it's illegal to download it? I really need somebody to help me because I now know that downloading a copyrighted file is illegal, but I still NEED to know if an downloading unlicenced files is also illegal. Somebody please answer me. Last edited by Soilder4Christ; January 20th, 2006 at 04:03 PM. |
