Default Using 'Preview'

Lately I have had a few probs with 'misrepresented' files. Hence I wish to use the preview facility to ensure .mpg or .avi files are what I expect before downloading hundreds of MB to find I have something 'strange'. I cannot find how-to-use the Preview facility anywhere in FAQ or the user guide. When I've tried to use it, Nero Media Player pops up and informs it cannot open the file. Why Nero, when I have the Limewire media player checked? (Yeah...I must have checked Nero as the default opener of this type of file), but I can't get the Limewire player, nor VLC, to even recognize there is a file there! I'm using v 4.9.28 Pro. I know the answer to my prob must be there somewhere, but I'm damned if I can find it! Thanks. (I'm just wasting too much of my download allowance at the moment)

If you use the search feature above right for<preview and video> you will find something to help you.

The particular thread might help -- or confuse: as it is not VERY recent and refers to a Beta version

I think LW only previews mp3, but my video experience is limited hence I'm pushing you off to other threads. All I do know is that a LOT of video files ou there are misrepresented, I'm afraid.

Let us know how you get on.

Here's what I do. I use VLC media player for video. I have a file on my desktop "My Videos" While the video is d/ling I go to the library section in LW and click on incomplete. I drag and drop the incomplete file into "my videos" folder. Then I play the video from there using VLC. (You have to move LW over so you can see the folder on your desktop)

Thanks guys...am now tied up for a day or so, but will try your ideas at first chance. Thanks again. (By the way, I liked your sense of humour. It bought a smile to this old face!)
