I tried to port forward limewire last night but im not sure if everything went successfully using this site http://www.portforward.com/english/r...ding/Linksy...
So everything seemed to work fine but when i go to (~tools> options> advanced> firewall config.), the port number is not the same number that i put in my router settings when i was port forwarding. I used 6346 from the site but my limewire shows 16871. What should i do? Also, since i port forwarded, should i change UPnP (Recommended) to Manual Port 6346 (under ~tools> options> advanced> firewall config.)? Thanks. |

My ports are the same within firewall config as the ones I set within my router. If your ports aren't the same I'm guessing people can't upload from you? Are you still seeing the firewall icon? Are you seeing uploads in your monitor window?
You can always change LW's listening port to 6346, then tick manual PF (6346). What happens then? |

I see the firewall iccon on the bottom (a red brick wall).
Yes I see uploads. Well, im not sure if i see uploads but this is what i see: no way out kansas city sum 41 etc, a lot more... I changed the port manually to 6346 and restarted Limewire. It still downloads the same as it was before. I dont know if i did anything but i hope i did. Thanks for the help tho. |

How long does it take you to d/l a song on average? It is taking me anywhere from 10 seconds (very few times) to about 4 minutes.

If I get multiple hosts (say5 or 6) I can dld at about 25KB/s. Most of my dlds come from a single source & then I get anywhere from 3KB/s to 10KB/s. How long it takes just depends on the file size.
*If your port forward went properly, I don't think you'd still see the firewall icon Did you remember to set up a static IP address first?

I never set up a static ip address because my friend told me not to because it would open up doors to possible threats/hackers.

You have to set up a static IP first, or PF won't work. It's up to you if you want to do it or not
You can be vigilant about your comp security...have a good AV program, adware & spyware removal programs. If you're worried about people connecting through open ports, check out PeerGuardian2:http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ |

Go back to the portforward.com page for your router, it will have instructions for static IP as well as port forwarding.
So kick me for asking a stupid question but you have configured your firewall to allow LW access???? http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Last edited by birdy; January 4th, 2006 at 05:23 PM. |

I did everything that portforward.com told me to do and now i want to make sure it is working properly. Is there a way to find out if i port forwarded sucessfully (other than faster downloads)?
