But it happens with others programs like frostwire, e-mule, bittorrent, shareaza...

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2006 05:26 PM

Download a magnet link from here & tell us what happens & what speeds you get http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

dchalhub April 5th, 2006 05:45 PM

it didn't help..
the speed is still at 15KB/s

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2006 05:53 PM

That doesn't sound good at all!!! It could well be an isp secretly shaping p2p bandwidth use. Do a speed test whilst LW is closed & post your results.

Here's some to try (try more than one):

1. Choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/

2. http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html

3. http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

4. http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest

*** Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

(BTW some of these tests quote speeds in kbps & not KB/s. So divide the figure by 8 to get KB/s) ;)

dchalhub April 5th, 2006 06:22 PM

my speed is aparently normal...
i did the tests and the result is about 285-300Kbps (35-37KB/s)
and did a download on internet to test i got ~35KB/s

My ISP is from Rio de Janeiro-Brazil

Lord of the Rings April 5th, 2006 06:39 PM

Hmm well it seems they may be shaping your p2p use. That magnet link can potentially get over 200 KB/s to downld if you can achieve that speed.

This may make no difference but try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

dchalhub April 5th, 2006 08:01 PM

i deleted the LW preferences but my download is still slow
and i tryied to download from a magnet link but is still the same

dchalhub April 6th, 2006 04:11 PM

can any one help me??

Lord of the Rings April 6th, 2006 04:29 PM

Try changing your port to one between 49152 - 65535?
Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & changing listening port to one suggested. Perhaps try 65530 or 64049. You would need to press apply button, go to File>Disconnect, wait a minute, then File>Connect.

Ross86 April 6th, 2006 07:24 PM

I'm having the same exact problem as this guy. I tried all of the suggested fixes. Also, LW keeps downloading files even when "Disconnected."

Ross86 April 12th, 2006 05:38 PM

Like I said in my first post, none of Lord of the Rings' suggestions helped.

Ok I also havin a problem with downladin stuff, When I download something off limewire its really slow and I mean slowwwwwwwwww. The maximum speed it has reached wen dowloadin somethin is 6kb/s and thats the best it has reached, most the time it struggles to get 1kb/s.

Ross86 April 13th, 2006 10:34 AM

I have cable internet from Charter. I've done a few speed tests and I download at +1mb/s. I'm using a wireless router. I have Norton Antivirus and I believe that has a firewall. I was downloading at a fast speed before all of this happened. There haven't been any hardware changes and there are no software changes that I know of between the time I was downloading fast & right now.

devilswrath11 April 13th, 2006 10:37 AM

Same here, Ross. I have Charter as well, and was downloading very quickly before I upgraded to Limewire 4.10.

Lord of the Rings April 13th, 2006 11:15 AM

Yes, I've come across quite a few Charter users with the same problem. I had a suspicion but thanks to Only A Hobo's homework, that puts it into more context. Don't think they won't shape your p2p bandwidth if they have it in their conditions. If they're running short of bandwidth then the isp will do what's necessary. This is becoming common in many continents where the isps have more customers than they can handle bandwidth wise. At least they can handle them if they "only" use the service for browsing, but not for games or p2p, etc. It's common to hear on games forums of people being shaped so they can't get the speed they're paying for. The same applies to p2p.
