Default not so fast downloads

I recently upgraded my internet from a dialup which I was constantly downloading at 5KB to 256K dsl wich I now average around 4KB while down loading. I have tried configuring Limewire as per the instructions & it did not help.

I did a speed test & here is what I came up with...
My download speed was 140kilobits=17.5KB
My upload speed was 221 kilobits=27.625KB

I am getting no where near this. Any help would be appreciated

Windows XP
Penium 4 2.8ghz
256mb of ram
ZoneAlarm firewall
I am directly connected to my home wireless router with my laptop connected wirelessly.

1. Did you have LW open when you did the speed test?
That's a large over-head loss from 256 kbps to 140.
2. Is your XP firewall enabled or disabled?
3. Did you configure your ZoneAlarm for LW?
4. What brand & model of router/modem do you have?
5. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW? (see sample below)

1. I don't remember if LW was open or closed? I think it might have been open.
2. xp firewall is disabled
3. ZoneAlarm is configured for LW
4. I have a D-link DI-624 wireless router with the computer I use limewire on directly connected to the router
5. Yes the brick is in front of the blue world in LW

Your D-Link has an internal NAT firewall. You need to either (a) enable UPnP on it, or (b) manually forward a port.
1st try enabling UPnP on it. Have a look for D-Link under the UPnP section of this page: Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

I just did a speed test with my laptop on a wireless connection (I do not have LW on this computer)

My DL was 215kbps & my UL was 210kbps

My UPnP is enabled on my router also.

Well something's wrong then if you're seeing the brick wall icon. Either your di-link or your softw firewall is not properly configured. There's a chance the upnp on the di-link is not efficient. In that case manual port forwarding would be best. At least it would be reliable.
Double-check your ZA firewall settings. And let us know what you think about port forwarding.

I would be interested in anything that could help. I'll double check my D-link & Zone Alarm settings too.

There are two versions of your router (DI-624 & DI-624+). Are you sure yours is the one without the "+"? Best to be sure, the port forwarding instructions might be quite different for both.
