Limewire download speed My limewire speed used to be around 30-50 kps. Somehow, after a while, it dropped completely to only 0-3 kps. Even after i bought PRO to help increase the download speed, it still remained 0-3 kps. any ideas? |
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Window XP 2. What firewalls you have? None 3. How much ram? 768 4. Hard Disk space available? 40 gigs 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ADSL (Broadband) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? True 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Limewire PRO 4.10.9 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? True Internet 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No |

You could try calling your isp and ask them if they filter p2p apps.... If you shutdown LW and restart it do your speeds go back up? If you have a lot of files queued waiting to d/l, try cutting back on them. Buying Pro really doesn't help improve speeds that much. Try downloading a file from here and see what kind of speeds you get: http://www.magnetmix.com/audio2.shtml |
Arrgh.... "6. Modem and router brand name and model numbers? True" I do not mean true as in true or false. My internet provider's company name is "True"! Now you get it? |
By the way 6 pac, link doesn't work |

6 Pac The drop in Manny54321's download speed (from 30-50 kps to 0-3 kps) seems to indicate that his ISP is now using traffic shaping techniques to cut down on P2P traffic. Asking ISPs if they use "traffic shaping" does not always work because, especially here in the UK, they don't like to admit it and/or don't pass on the information to their front line (non-technical help desk) staff. Mind you, with a name like "True" you would expect them to be truthful. UK Bob |
manny54321 you're based in Bangkok right? AFAIK all Thailand's internet connections now go thru Singapore since your mighty prime minister sold the entire telecommunications to them. (the sooner you get rid of him the better! Else Thailand won't own much & he will own the rest.) Talk to foolofthehill as he has probably more knowledge about Thai isp's than anybody else here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/member...poster&t=56988 He himself has to put up with some similar problems apparently. I can't remember how similar though. |

Yes, i live in thailand.... sad to know the stupid Thaksin prime minister sold the line to singapore. That's just depressing! True is a internet provider, and their website is here. Just in case you guys were snickering at the name..... haha. What's P2P anyway? i see it everywhere.... |
