Update of TCPIP.SYS

Microsoft released a new TCPIP.SYS with build 5.1.2600.2892 on the
yesterday's patch-day. The current Patcher 2.23d is still capable of
changing the half-open tcp limit. But you need to reapply the patcher to
set a higher limit to the new version.

foolofthehill June 18th, 2006 04:47 AM

Thanks for that one, I've just applied it and indeed, the update yesterday changed it....

Gotta reboot now to get it work......;) .......(well, you're already on my blessing list, so no changes there....:D )

et voilą June 18th, 2006 06:13 AM

Viva Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD y OS X! lol

Seriously, I hate MS and only have Linux and OSX on my computers ;)

That is another exemple why.

garbagefan2 June 21st, 2006 02:19 PM

I would up grade to mac osx but my computers all have windows. I found a copy of mac osx for $17.77. That's cheap! But can I put mac osx on windows computers?

ZeroTruths June 22nd, 2006 04:49 PM

HAHA! Yeah right...
But you can do it the other way around: Put Windows on a Mac

garbagefan2 June 27th, 2006 11:32 AM

It was a used mac osx copy. I think it was old. I think it was tiger.

ski00 June 28th, 2006 04:53 AM

For the dumy

What exactly will this do, not being computer savy i have to ask the question?

explain and help

hi there,
i'm new to all this stuff.
please explain me what does 'half-open tcp limit' mean ?
how does it help?
will it help me in downloading faster ?

i use win xp sp2
256 mb ram
64 kbps connection speed and can download @ of 8 to 10 KB/s
cable connection

is there any chance i can increase this speed ?

Firefly2002 July 28th, 2006 10:29 AM

If you've got a 64 kbps connection, that indicates you've got ISDN. Is that true? If so, you can double the speed by using two phonelines instead of one, though I'm not sure if that's possible with all ISDN modems.

Also, upgrading to 512 MB of RAM would help a lot- perhaps not with downloads, but with overall system speed, since WinXP usually likes a lot more.

kaloochi August 6th, 2006 07:25 AM

i'm nnew to this.this update sounds important but i havent a clue what it means

Grandpa August 6th, 2006 07:53 AM

The patch allows more connections which allows more bandwidth to flow freely to and from your computer. But unless you have a very fast connection it really wont make any difference. At least from my experience but it won't hurt anything if you do install it.

kaloochi August 6th, 2006 10:49 AM

thanks again

donp1371 September 30th, 2006 09:46 AM

Adware????

I just ran an adaware scan and Adaware found the above mentioned update to be adware. Even though it said that it is a low risk program, is it safe to keep?

Plus Adware named it Hacktool. It also stated the purpose of the update and said that it could cause system boot failure.

rapgame06 October 1st, 2006 06:17 AM

My virus scanner does the same I installed it and it stopped my whole internet from working. Can anyone answer that question. its working now as i rebooted xp up

Grandpa October 2nd, 2006 08:56 PM

Of course it is a hack it is editing the registry to allow more connections thus allowing better bandwidth flow to your computer. Windows XP only allows 10 half open connections the tool bumps it up to 50 half open connections. Thus hacking Windows to allow more connections and bandwidth flow. But unless you have a very fast Internet connection it will not help. But if you do have a 1 gig or faster connection it will help. At least from my experience.

Lord of the Rings October 2nd, 2006 09:15 PM

I think you meant 1 Mbps connection not G right. lol :D

Grandpa October 2nd, 2006 10:09 PM

1 Attachment(s)
No Actually Gigabit :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabit_per_second

Lord of the Rings October 2nd, 2006 10:18 PM

1,000 megabits per second or 1,000,000 kilobits per second or 1,000,000,000 bits per second. But your speed (12,374 kbps) would be 0.012374 Gbps. Or have I miscalculated. :D Very nice speed all the same. I wish ... :D

Grandpa October 3rd, 2006 05:07 AM

No you haven't miscalculated I said a person would have to have a very fast connection in order for the hack to make a difference. I myself have a very fast connection for a home user but it doesn't appear to make any difference weather I use the patch or not.

JUST WONDERING DO YOU MEAN - I NEED A SECOND PHONE CONNECTION OR DO I JUST USE THE CABLE FROM THE PHONE AND CONNECT IT TO THE MODEM - THUS USING BOTH LINES FROM THE PHONE SPLITTER TO GAIN ADDITIONAL SPEED

I am having problems downloading. I bought pro to download faster, but it is just the same, and I could have saved my money. Can anyone tell me why I am having these problems? I cannot even get a skin to download.

Hi -

I was about to purchase Limewire Pro, but went ahead and did some research and ran into these message boards. I see that you bought pro back in November and didn't see much of a change. Anything new since then?

Also - I have a desktop and a laptop, do I have to purchase Limewire Pro twice for both computers, or can install Pro on both after one payment?

birdy December 28th, 2006 11:07 PM

You can check out the changelog here

How much difference you'll see between Pro & basic depends a bit on your connection & what you're using LW for...Pro lets you connect to 2 extra ultrpeers, so it has the capacity for better search results. People who look for rarer files find it better. You'll also be able to connect to a couple of extra hosts when downloading (max 14 if you have a T3 connection).

You'll be able to save your Pro installer(s) & copy them to your other computer. Just remember to bookmark your personal download page & save & back up any installers you download...LW doesn't keep old installers for downloading later if you lose the current one.

If you haven't already, try the basic (free) version first. Get to know the app & work out if you like it enough to buy the Pro;)

Download either version only from www.limewire.com

9svn6 January 8th, 2007 08:20 PM

With this patch would you notice a difference with a cable modem about 8mbps?

I have been reading posts trying to figure out why my video downloads are so slow (2 - 10 kbps). I used your link to find my speed and it is 12,374 kbps or 15,468 KB/sec. Are my downloads happening at a normal speed? I'm new so I don't know what to expect but it seems that they are terribly slow. I have turned off my Norton firewall and am using the Windows firewall instead.

Grandpa January 14th, 2007 02:01 PM

No you should be faster try some of the fixes in the link below. Try the .LimeWire fix first.

Grandpa, thank you for guiding me in the right direction. I found what was wrong - my pre-load programs that came with my laptop installed an early version of Java, so I uninstalled that version and now have just the newest version and my downloads have speeded up considerably (50 - 200 kbs) for video. Thanks!

CForce, :welcomeani:. Generally speaking a download that needs more sources and you never get any sources are usually fakes. There is not really anything to download.

Take a look here to maybe avoid some of these bogus files.http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...h-results.html. Hope this helps. :D

how do i download to my mp3 player?

hello all

livedtoken July 22nd, 2007 03:55 PM

how do i go and see response to my post

wondering why July 23rd, 2007 01:24 AM

Be patient...

Firstly plug in your mp3 player....

Go to your shared folder outside of limewire, to find this folder you need to select a file from your LW library and hit explore....

Now you should have a window that contains all your downloaded files...
(you can close LW down now if you want)

Right click on one of your mp3s

select send to

select the drive that your mp3 player is pluged in to (ie mine is E drive)
