Default Help!! Slow downloading speed

Hello, I have the following problem:

We recently aquiered a High speed connection "Cable" at home. My computer is connected by router to the main computer. Since then, I've changed the connection speed to the proper one (cable/dsl), but it keeps downloading at a slow speed, (20KB/s at the most).

What should I do?

I readed that it could be the firewall from windows xp? but actualy its not activated or enabled.

Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanx

Download a file from here & see what speed you get
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

What's your actual speed? You can do a speed test here
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1

Have a look through this thread, it's got some good tips for optimising LW's performance
Configuring LW for best performance
Depending on your speed test results (don't get kilobits confused with kilobytes), maybe you should set your speed within LW to another level
LimeWire speeds

Who is your ISP?

And what was your speed when downloading a magnetmix file? What was the result of your speed test? Did you go through & optimise your LW?

downloading a magnetmix file = mostly (4KB/s)

Speed test:

Your download speed : 3596 kbps or 449.5 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 352 kbps or 44 KB/sec.

Right now im reading the optimise Lw

The main problem might be your ISP. Those magnetmix files should download really fast! Read through this article, it's from Jan this year, suggests that Adelphia OneLink are traffic shaping
http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.ph...8813.msg111118

This would account for your slow speeds. Have you tried any other p2p apps & if so, did you find the same thing happened? Give their help desk a call, you may find they are shaping during their 'peak' time only. You could try changing ports, see below for suggestions of port numbers to try. If you do change ports, remember to also change the port numbers allowed within your software firewall & router if you're port forwarding!
