yeah ive tried while my wife was at the office and i was at home
she tried to browse via ip direct connect and no luck ?

My modem does have a firewall but i dont have access yet to configure it nor i know what upnp nat and dynamic dns is like secret code language to me

Any other suggestions?

brazilrealestate October 7th, 2006 05:43 PM

and if i do configure the modem and all of those things am i going to be open to attacks???

Peerless October 7th, 2006 05:58 PM

no....correct configuration of your modem and such does not open you to attacks...

and on that subject download PeerGuardian2, install it, update it, and always use it when on the gnutella network...

Enable UPnP. See if UPnP works ok. That means your NAT firewall is still active but it allows programs such as LimeWire to communicate directly with this device to open the port it needs at the time.

Can you create a magnet link of the file & send it to me via personal message? Click on my username to send message. To create a magnet link, see How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect

BTW do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW? If yes, that means the NAT firewall is probably the problem. And that's why nobody can direct connect to you. So try enabling UPnP.

Messing with the proxies and socks can that also prevent people downloading from me?

I want to watch lost on abc.com and its only allowed for USA ips so i downloaded CHARON and tweaked it a little to watch the episodes not done with it yet
but tell me can that effect it in any way???

Im in Brazil and not going back to Chicago untill next year !!!

Peerless October 7th, 2006 09:58 PM

I did a quick google search for charon and got no results that give me a clue as to what you are using...

but, most proxie(services)s are for http only, and that does not affect your use of the gnutella network...the use of SOCKS proxies would, but those are configured in your advanced settings in LW...

Sorry brazilrealestate, I didn't mean to desert you I went offline...:rolleyes_2:

Check this link out and see if it is simialr to your model, the instructions on how to log into your modem/router are all there and how to set up a static IP also...Set your Port Numbers as it suggests (I personally use 12020) and make sure you enter that number into both the limewire port and the listen port...

Here is the link....

And another...

See if they are similar to yours....

I Am Calling The Modem Company Monday Afternoon.....static Ip Is That The One Where I Can Reflect Different Ip Address Rather Than My Own.
Example: Im From Chicago And Love To Watch Lost But Am In Brazil
I Change The Proxies And I Think The Sock Proxy Also To Fool The Abc.com Site Into Thinking Im In Usa And Be Able To Watch The Episodes.

Is That Static Ip? And Does It Effect Limewire Up/downloads ?

Also Ive Heard Its Safer Against Hackers ?

Will Be Checking This Forum Everyday
