Unhappy downloads

I've read, and tried it..again and again..but it doesn't work. When ever I download anything it saves as a limewire doc...but when erase and change the the file type, it doesn't become what it is. I erase it all, .zip, then put it back. Need some help. Thanks

i don't understand your problem, however, if you are trying to change the file extension, wouldn't you need to use a program to "convert" the file(s)?

Default ...

I refer to this from the trouble shooting guide.

" 4-2Q. On my Macintosh computer, all my MP3 downloads appear as LimeWire documents or LimeWire docs. None of my software players can recognize these files. How can I fix this?
4-2A. Try shortening the file name and adding the appropriate extension (i.e. mp3 for a song) manually to the file name. The maximum length of a file name on a Mac is 32 characters. You can also play MP3 LimeWire docs with a program called MacAmp. Go here to download this program."

However it is not working on any file over 32 characters..which is ok I suppose. But then when I try to open a zip or sit it just doesn't work. Perhaps I will give this mactella thing a try, and hope for the best.

If the file's name length is over 32 characters, many programs will not be able to open them, and the Finder will change the names of the files. This inclues zip and sit compression programs. Make a copy of the file, and name it something short, like 'test01.zip'. Adding the .zip ending or .xxx ending is imperitive (even though you are using a Mac). Try opening the file now.

Did this work?
If not post again.

Default well

I haven't gotten around to trying what you said yet...but once I reinstall LimeWire I will give it a try. Now, I have dl'd files under 32 characters without luck. They haven't worked either.

Default NEW FIX

This has just been discovered. Read, try, and reply:

Quote:
Expander
The thing is - you can open these LimeWire files - if you just have a tiny bit more skill then to simply keep double clicking. It seems that alot of people are getting stuck for no good reason.

So using Expander twice solves the problem...until you have the time

If you can get this work (and you let me know that it does), it will be added to the FAQ so that Mac Users will at least have a functional, temporary solution.

Look forward to hearing from any of you that try this!

I don't own a Mac, so I can't know for sure, but I think that expander is short for Stuffit Expander.

Default heh

yeah, I figured that out after I opened Stuff It. Well, it didn't work. Even with a .sit file under 32 characters. I guess I am to be doomed never being able to use zip or sit files from LimeWire. I get a message saying they either aren't a stuffit doc, or are corrupted.
