Major Limewire Problem - Need Help!

I've got Limewire on my computer and it was running fine, but now for some reason it just won't run. It loads up for a little while, but when it gets to "loading library window" it just cuts out and won't run. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't help. Also, after uninstalling it's left behind some files that I can't seem to delete. Can somebody help me with this?

Try the steps here Fixes for Limewire. Step one means uninstalling all Java versions & reinstalling using the "Offline" java installer.

What do you mean uninstalled LW? Did you use the uninstall option from the Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. That is the way you're supposed to uninstall LW. However, reinstalling LW will also uninstall the previous version at the beginning of the installation process.

More help needed

Thanks for your help. I'm in the middle of downloading Java right now to reinstall it. Looks like it's going to take about 4 hours! I uninstalled LW from control panel>Add/Remove. Was I wrong to do that? In the meantime, I'd like to be able to delete the shared folder that was left behind from LW, but I just can't do it! When I try to, I get an error message saying: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and there's an option of sending an error report with it. This is just driving me crazy! Can you help me out here aswell?:(

Um yes it was not the correct way to uninstall LW & may cause problems trying to reinstall. By the sounds of it you're on dial up are you?
I'd suggest getting this "small" but very effective utility to help clean up your registry: http://www.ccleaner.com/ It runs fast so won't need to wait around too long for it to do its job. Do this before you reinstall LW. In fact, you may be better off using a different LW installer which doesn't actually install, you just unzip it & use: Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!
So hopefully after this your Shared folder will become free again. I'd reboot before trying again.

(BTW this is what "can" happen by uninstalling LW as you did: Errors due to mistakenly uninstalling LW using Add/Remove control panel - what to try now. Read from here onward!)

I hate this

Well, I tried running that ccleaner program but it didn't work. I still can't delete that annoying shared folder. Also, I accidently cancelled downloading Java so it looks like I'm going to have to wait another 4 hours for that to get started. Man, this sucks!

Could someone please respond to my problem soon? I'd like to fix this as soon as possible. By the way, I'm not on dial up, I'm on broadband.

When you get that message 'Windows Explorer...' There is a link that tells you what to do to turn off the feature that is annoying you (data execution prevention).

Go to start...control panel...system...advanced tab...performance settings...data execution prevention tab...

Choose 'turn on DEP except for'...Windows Explorer

I'm not sure why this kept popping up on my computer...but since I have turned the feature off, I haven't had any negative effects. The feature says it is for protection against viruses, etc., but I have good antivirus software, so I am not too concerned!

Hopefully this will allow you to at least access the folder you are having difficulties with!

Good Luck
