Just got a new PC and am having trouble downloading. Please help.

I've been using Limewire for a few years now on my old Gateway. It's always worked fine and fast. I just got the latest edition of Limewire Pro and am having a horrible time trying to download songs. When I hook up my old computer there is no problem downloading songs so there must be some type of setting I need to turn on or off.

My new computer is an HP pavilion. I have a WebStar DPC2100 Series modem and am running Windows XP Media Addition. I have a broadband connection.

At any rate here is my problem. When I connect to Limewire everything is fine. I have a Turbo-charged connection and there is no brick wall. When I find a song to download it continually comes up with "need more sources"...even if it's a song like "*******" from ******** where I'm pulling from 90 users. If I click on enough (like maybe 20) of them it may eventually connect...but it will download extremely slow.

I tried searching the forum and found a setting in "tools" to "reset to default" (I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about) but that didn't help either. It's so frustrating that I can just plug my modem into the old computer and everything works fine, but when I try downloading from my new one I get nothing. Can somebody please help me?

Might be a corruption in the LW preference folder. Try to delete it.
Read here on how to delete this folder (Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420
Afterwards reboot your computer.

I went to that link but nothing there worked. I ran a search for .limewire and nothing came up. I noticed that it was apparently a "hidden" file so I went into tools and view and clicked on show hidden folders. I still got nothing on the search.

Any other ideas?

3. * New name & location for preferences folder for LW 4.10 or later: For LW 4.10 or later: Delete the LW Preferences folder called limewire (whilst LW is closed!) found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\limewire

And yes, this folder is in your hidden Application Data folder, but it can't be reached through LW, only via Windows Explorer.

Doing a search through Windows Explorer is bringing up nothing. However if I manually go into...C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\LimeWire...through the program files the only folders I find when I open the limewire folder are .Network share, themes and xml. I'm not finding this ".limewire" folder anywhere.

1. Search for limewire in the Application Data folder. The previous versions to LW 4.10 it was called .limewire, whereas with the newer versions it's now called limewire.

Check the sample image here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...32&postcount=4

2. In regards to your downlding problem, see Beware of Fake files in search results & more tips here How to find music

Nothing seems to be working. I ended up un-installing the Limewire program and then re-installing it. That seemed to do the trick on downloading songs. at least that's working now.

The next question is...my downloads don't seem to be as fast as they used to be. There only moving between 1 and maybe 30 kb/s. Mostly 1 to 5 though. They used to be moving between 90 and 200 kb/s. When I did my speak easy test my sped reading came back at 9845 kb/s. My ISP is Insight, what gives?

There is a high possibility Insight is shaping your p2p bandwidth. Many ISP's use a special program that detects p2p use & shapes that bandwidth, whilst giving priority to surfing. You'll find Insight on this list ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire. So I'd suggest you're lucky you can still use LW with only minimal problems. Normally download speeds depend upon your sources, but in some cases the ISP is at fault. Keep trying to get more sources for your downlds by keep searching & using the Get more Results option (ie: right-click search results tab ...)
