ill check there then because i have seen that folder |
ok i went to that folder and opened it and there was nothing there that resembled a prefences folder i had to delete that folder A LONG TIME AGO like a long time ago, but i dont know where it could be or what happend to it |
The .limewire folder is the preferences folder. There's no folder called 'preferences' inside it. You don't have to open it, just delete the whole .limewire folder. You might've deleted it before, it's a fix for quite a few problems. But after you deleted the folder, a new one would've been created the next time you started LW. Same with the prefs folder in the new location, within Application Data. It's called LimeWire & you just delete the whole thing, no need to open it. |
ok i did that and its still having trouble it does the same thing but now it connects for a long time and then says needs more sources it also takes a long time to preform a search |
OK Vicious. Fill this in like Birdy asked, Guessing is getting us nowhere. System details - help us to help you Please. Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You. Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again. So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are: 1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) 2. What firewalls you have ? 3. How much ram ? 4. Hard Disk space available ? 5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ? 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ? 8. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ? 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.? 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ? 14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ? 15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.? These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first! but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details. This information can be vital For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth, some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations. So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can. If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions, or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink: Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there. __________________ Peace. |

Hi Vicious. First my friend, you need to turn one of your Firewalls off. I would generally say, turn off W-XP, But knowing the problems with Macafee at present, (Incompatibility) issues, I leave the choice to you. You must turn one or the other off. then configure the remaining one to allow LimeWire to pass through. Next we need the model No's of you router, ITS a MUST, look on the side & it should be there eg... "Model DSL-504T" or similar. Have you made different static IPs n portfawarded for each computer ? Use a different listening port for each L/W app. |
my xp fire wall was already off so i turned off my macafee and nothing happend then i turned on the xp and left macafee off i dont know if this is the model of my router but this is the number i got dpx100 Modem p/n 749874 if thats not correct then i must not be looking in the right place i dont know if i have different static IPs n portfawarded for each computer i dont even think i know what that means also i downloaded a song last night and it took forever at least 2 or 3 hours also when it was almost completed the percentage started decreasing |
Hi Vicious. I cant find any D Link router with those No'S Can you check their correct Please. There are allot of people having trouble with McAfee right now and it is known to block limewire. Try turning it off and see if LimeWire will connect. To disable firewall protection: On the McAfee SecurityCenter pane, do one of the following: Click Internet & Network, and then Configure. Click Advanced Menu, then Configure on the Home pane, and then point to Internet & Network. On the Internet & Network Configuration pane, under Firewall protection is enabled, select Off. A warning appears saying 'When firewall protection is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to intrusion and unwanted network connections'. In the warning box, you have the option of automatically re-enabling the firewall after 15 minutes (you can change this to 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes). Click OK to disable the firewall. Clicking Cancel leaves the Firewall protection enabled. http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/ Say thanks to Grandpa for info. |
