My name is JDavid and I just recently updated my DSL connection to Cable broadband. It seems that I made a huge mistake, (even though you can save me by giving me some pointers). I used to have my DSL for many years with one of the biggest Telephone Solutions Providers in Puerto Rico.

I am now subscribed to one of the main Cable ISPs supporting the metro area at Puerto Rico. My Cable ISP is called "Powerlink" from the company called Onelink Communications, located in Puerto Rico.

I just learned that my Cable ISP is controlling the way my broadband is delivered. I say this because ever since I changed to Internet cable, I haven't been able to download files through LimeWire or any other "P2P", or "Gnutella" network as before. My LimeWire download speed is extremely slow. I was told by my Cable ISP's Customer Service that they do not allow or support these types of connections and softwares because it implies "Cpyright Laws". I undertand this, but I think they should leave this issue to the "end user". Why the **** they have to decide it for me!!! It SUCKS!!!!

Well, I have already tried entering into my cable modem WebStar DPC2100R2 but my ISP has a forced "firmware" that won't allow me to do any changes. I also tried to configured a "Static IP address" and "Port Forwarding" on my Linksys Router, but it didn't correct the LimeWire issue.

Any help would be appreciated. Here's the technical info from my current hardware:

- OS: Win XP SP2
- CPU: 3.0ghz
- RAM: 2GB
- H.D.: 80gb
- Cable Modem: Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR-DPR2100R2
- Router: Linksys Wireless G (Model: WRT54GS)
- Scenario: I have the Cable Modem connected to the Internet port of the Linksys Router. The computer is connected to my Linksys Router.

Unfortunatley the only answer is to change to a different ISP...

But..... Are you sure this is the only solution?

I asked this because I was able to contact someone from inside my ISP, and they told me that it could be posibble to configure a "port forward".
Even though they said it would be possible, they could not specified how since they were not allowed and they were scared of being fired from their job.

Like I said before, I've tried to performed all configurations possible on my router and tcp/ip connections.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I can give you the instruction for your router to Port Forward, but you said you had already tried that...But here they are anyway, see if they help...

I also found these instructions at the Port Forwarding site it's for the Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR-DPR2320, I know it's not your model but you may be able to access yours if the set up is the same...

Once again, thanks for the feedback.

Not to "brag" about it, or something like that. But I already tried all of the "port forwarding" steps mentioned out there.

It seems that I still can't download at a good speed. I also wanted to point out once again that I've already tried entering into my cable modem WebStar DPC2100R2 but my ISP has a forced a "firmware update" that won't allow me to do any changes on my cable modem. One last ditch effort...Try these fixes and see if any help...

5. Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

6. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)


Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE offline version....(5th one down)

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder...
