Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

You made no mention of your software firewall. I presume you are using XP firewall. Did you configure it to allow LW full access? Instructions in my previous post.

Yes, Iam using XP firewall and already configured. Do you think it has something to do with my IP address? My IP address is starting with 192.168.1.10...But, I can download and upload at the same time.

I that you were trying to enable someone to "Direct Connect" to you but your recent question about your IP address is somewhat confusing because firewalls have nothing to do with IP addresses.

An IP address for a home PC, and I presume you are using a home PC, is allocated by your ISP automatically. If you check my screen print below, you will see I have a standard XP set up designed to accept an IP address sent by my ISP and, if your set up is like mine, you will see the same thing as well, check your TCP/IP properties.

Next, the IP address you are seeing I believe it is the one that your modem-router is using to search the internet on your behalf. You see, what the NAT router table does is to substitute your PC's IP address for one in its table when you initiate a search, download, etc. Now, when your modem-router receives a reply it converts it's substitute IP back into the one your PC is expecting.

The thing that makes modem-routers so good it that unlike simple modems if it receives an unexpected internet communication the modem-router will drop that internetsignal like a hot brick while an ordinary modem will pass it through to your PC. That is why PCs with modem-routers do not get probed or suffer the kind of internet attacks other PC owners suffer with.

To get past a modem-router requires the PC owner to visit a booby trapped web-page, download malware (Trojan, virus or spyware) or load something from a floppy disk or CD.

Back to your "Direct Connect" problem, as I said before direct connect may not work because your modem-router will see the communication as an unwanted probe and automatically drop it. That is why I said that you should contact Thomson-Speedtouch technical helpdesk to see if they can advise you how to get around your problem.

PS. Seems that I have lost my screen print, I'll add it to the following post.

Default The Thomson Speedtouch 585 (v6) Modem

Hi Abarceo

I have just upgraded from my PC from the Speedtouch 510 (v6) to the Speedtouch 585 (v6) modem.

The upgrade went relatively smoothly but, at this stage, I don't know yet if my LW Pro will work even though I have port forwarded the modem exactly the same way I configured the 510.

I have still yet to install the wireless connections but I intend to use WPA rather than WEP encryption.

BTW, hope you have solved your "Direct Connect" problem, let the forum know if you have.

Nope!!! I think it has something to do with my modem (SpeedTouch) or server. I tried to reach SpeedTouch distributor but seemed they don't understand the problem. I'll just wait for the outcome of your setup.
I want to try a single port modem to eliminate the posibility of firewalled.

If you are not fed up with Thomson SpeedTouch modems then you should go for the SpeedTouch ST330 USB modem. I used a previous version of this modem and found it very easy to use as there is no configuration or massive set ups.

Not only that, you do not have to contend with a NAT table/firewall, it is just a plain, plug and play (single user) broadband modem. Here is the URL: Thomson ST 330

Good luck

Default Thomsson SpeedTouch 585 (v6) Wireless Modem-Router

Hi Abarceo

How are you? Hope you got you "Direct Connect" problem sorted (once you've got that ST330 there should be no more problems).

Anyway, I finally got my ST585 configured and sorted out the way I want it, and especially without compromising my PCs security.

After a couple of weeks of "getting to know" the manual (which is slightly out of date) I managed to do the following.

a) Set the modem up with my PC (me) as the administrator and I am still using the wired (patch cable) connection.

b) Port Forward my Limewire Pro app, without too much difficulty.

c) Initiate the modem's WPA security feature.

d) Connect my son's PC, which is in his bedroom, wirelessly to the modem.

e) Stop my modem from broadcasting its network name.

f) Set the modem so that only registered wireless users/clients, approved by me, can access it.

g) Connect my son's Sony PSP to the modem as a wireless registered client.

h) Password protected and saved my modem's configuration.

i) Plan to set up my son's mobile phone as a wireless registered client.

After all that, I may get myself a VOIP phone I understand that you can make cheap(er) phone calls.

Anyway, because the latest user manual was slightly out of date, and did not contain full instructions, I found that I had locked myself out of my modem's configuration settings. However, a quick email to Thomson, who responded almost immediately, soon got me back on track.

I must say that initially setting up the 585 is not that straight forwards and it can take some time to get things right. However, once you are over the main "hump" the other problems and solutions just seem to fall into place.

Anyhow, as said at the beginning, hope your set up problems are now behind you.

No, not yet. ST330 is not available and still waiting for the availability. Going back to my modem ST585 I still have many thing to study to set for administrator and so on. I have the installation disk for the configuration. But, I am stucked up with the password given by the modem supplier. The person who assigned my user name & password is nowhere to locate. Is there any way to override the password?

It's great if I can set up my moden the way you did. I ordered
also a Phoneserve Phone box which will be used as VOIP for ADSL connection, though Iam still using my old phoneserve phone modem using dialup connection.
This question may be out of topic. With my phoneserve phone modem (old one), it is mentioned that calling direct using IP to IP addresses is possible. So, if I will be able to solve my firewall problem, IP to IP calls is not a problem using my new phonebox for ADSL.

I'll try to configure my ST585 modem the way you did.
