Question Movie's will not play

I have downloaded 3 files of the same movie from 3 different people and it still will not play. I have tried to open it with the Vlc media player,Divx,Windows media player, real player, quicktime, and even my nero 7 wich supports almost all media types.
When i downloaded all 3 of them they all had good rateings people have given them and i have no idea what to do maybe i am just dumb.
If anyone knows what else i could try i would be greatful b/c i am about to pull my hair out!!!

The file could be fake, check it out with GSPOT, here's the link:-

GSpot Codec Information Appliance

This handy little utility will identify the kind of file you have.

OK, if the file turns out to be real then you may need additional codecs, here is another link:-

XP Codec Pack

Download XP Codec Pack 2.3.3 - XP Codec Pack is one of the most complete codec pack

Vista Codec Pack

Vista Codec Package Download - Softpedia

You've not said which O/S you have so I have directed you to both XP and Vista.

It is most likely a fake if VLC can't play it. It can play almost all video or audio formats. But it doesn't hurt to try what ukbobboy said.
