I can not get my limewire to even work
 

I dont understand what I have to do to start downloading my music. Where am I going wrong:oI have spent atleast 5 or more hours on trying to make it work. Please help!:confused:

What exactly is the problem?? Are you connecting to the Network??

Please supply system details or at least let us know what problems your having.
We might be able to help with the Limewire problems but we can't read your mind

I am having almost the same problem... I'd just downloaded the paid version of Liwire 5.12 and it is not letting me type any song's name to search for...
Installed on an
Apple Mac Pro 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Leopard OS X 10.5.6
Does anybody has the same problem??

I've seen same problem with others. Not sure if there was a simple answer. Have you tried deleting your LW preferences whilst LW is closed: Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX.
Something else to try, might not make any difference is to move the Java 1.6 up or down on the Java preferences before opening LW: Setting up Java for Leopard.

Another alternative is to get LW 4.18 pro instead. It has more tools, less bugs & is more stable than LW 5. Pro download page (click 'Classic' link on left side of page) (click 'this' link to see image). However if you do decide to get LW 4.18 instead, you will need to remove the install limewire.pkg file from the Receipts folder for it to install; Receipts folder sample image

I had the same problem-just wouldn't launch! Fellow Forum Member- Lord of the Rings was very helpful to me and lead me to a link where others were having the same problem and they found the 'fix' by uninstalling and reinstalling your 'JAVA PLATFORM' - go here to do so:

but download the 'OFFLINE' version. but first uninstall your current version. I dd and it launched right away. goood luck ! Sorry the url didn't come out as a hyperlink- just copy and paste it into your URL line.

I spent more than one hour trying to fix my lime. Conection is ok, but cant type anything to search. Then I tryied to download lime 4, but that link isn't working too.
My system is OS X 10.5.6
How could I download limewire 4?

That link doesn't work, then I went to LM home page and find the LM 4.
Limewire 4 is working fine in my Mac.

Good to hear. :) Which link is not working? I simply posted an example image to show where to click on the Download page if you're using Pro.

I thought that image was a link.
The LM 4 is working, but I coudn't download Pro (4). When I try to download Pro only open the Pro 5.
How can I upgrade to Pro 4? Thanks.

Ah .. go to your LW personal download page, if it's still valid, & click on the Classic link on left side as that image suggested. :) If you forgot to bookmark your personal pro download page, log in near top of page you will see a link for pro users here: Lime Wire » Support (has a green down arrow beside the link)

Yes, I didn't bookmark my personal pro download page.
That link (Lime Wire >> Support) goes to LM 5.
Please, I want to upgrade to 4 pro.

I have bought the Limewire Pro 5.1.2 version for Windows Vista Home and every time I click on the icon on the desk-top, nothing happens. I have installed and uninstalled it until i'm blue in the face.
I've spent hours trying to get it to work. Its driving me nuts. I've wasted my money.
Tried everything is an understatement. Can anyone please help.

Thanx for your advise but yes I have tried all the fixes on gnutella.

I have used LW in the past including 4 and didn't have a problem. It was there on my computer one day and gone the next. My partner had had to reboot the computer back to a previous date and thats when LW was lost from the pc.

I've tried downloading the 4 again, which is one that I also purchased legally but LW is now saying that my version is now expired and no longer available to update.

I'm just at a loss now and am now considering just uninstalling the one I've just bought and not bothering at all.

I've spent so many hours on here trhing to get it back on.......its unreal.

Hi Chris,

You can download LW 4.18.8 basic from the link in my first post - if you had bought Pro & your Pro benefits have expired then you wouldn't be able to download from your Pro personal download page.

But the free basic 4.18.8 is available for download by anyone;) Even if it's only the basic version, if you can get that to work then it'll be some indication of whether the problem's version related. And there's not much difference between Pro & basic anyway.

If you want to keep trying with LW then go for the basic. If you don't want to try any more then no worries:)

If your old LW was here one day & gone the next, maybe one of your security programs could be a problem. Some people have found that their antispyware program would (wrongly) pick LW as a threat & delete the .exe file. Which security apps do you use?

I will try to download version from your link again.

We use norton, but have even disabled that until i've downloaded LW but it still doesnt work.

Completely baffled, and I used LW all the time. I'm lost without it now.

Hey, I have the same problem going on here! I just uninstalled my limewire itself, because that's what it told me to do when I got the "error, you have a bug" thingy. And I installed that 5.1.3, or whatever it is, that new one? And it's still not working! I read all the things you guys suggested to do and I apparently have installed the new update for Java and stuff and my dad has no idea what to do... Don't tell him I said that!
I'm lost without my music and limewire won't even show up! What should I do?

If that does not solve the problem, scroll back up to post #1 of that thread & see points #5 & 6 about changing compatibility mode & running as Admin.

However rather than LW 5.1.3, use this version: LimeWire 5.2.2 (Beta) - Lime Wire which is stable.

Warning, LW should not be uninstalled using the Add/Remove control panel. Method is via Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall. Else, re-installing LW will remove it at beginning of installation process.

ok i have recently downloaded limewire basic version 4 free "version 5.1.4" but it downloads everything then as i go to the limewire icon to start it. a msg appears saying "bug detected" i then have the options of sending the bug.. and i have sent this bug so many times but nothing has changed..and my limewire is still not working.

Try the beta LimeWire 5.2.5 (Beta) - Lime Wire & see if any improvement. :)
