Downloading problems.

The status of my downloads say that they all have hosts and appear to be downloading BUT the % isn't moving, they all seem stuck where they are...this has started since I updated to limewire 4.16.6

But I tested to see if I could download a music file, and there was no problems doing that, it seems it's only my video files that wont budge...is anyone else getting this problem.?

Lord of the Rings February 17th, 2008 10:51 PM

Video files often come from ShareAza users who share different networks, some of which force them to use most of their upload bandwidth for those other networks. They can be highly frustrating.

Sometimes what I do, is re-search the item, if it doesn't help it with downloading then I cancel from download window & re-select from search results. This sometimes helps as connections may become stale. Also, don't forget to use the Get More Results option, right click the search result tab, choose that option to get more sources.

BTW these ideas might help ;) (a) If LW Will Not Connect, __ (b) Problems with the search, __ (c) Hostiles List

retro February 18th, 2008 11:38 AM

Cheers mate, i'll try those ideas. :)

perrioli February 18th, 2008 02:13 PM

I have exactly the same problem and none of the above helped me. In fact nothing has. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread in the hope you get a solution. But if the experts don't know the answer, what chance have you?

You and me both mate...i've tried everything too. :bangh:

LeMarquis February 18th, 2008 03:44 PM

I have the exact same issue. Also started after updating to 4.16.

retro February 18th, 2008 08:40 PM

I dont know if this is the problem but I have a feeling it's the files that i had downloading when I did the limewire update that are the ones not moving, I've just randomly added a brand new file to the list (one NOT on my list during the update) and it at the moment seems to be downloading perfectly while the old ones are still stuck.

Maybe we all have to delete the downloads we had before the update and start again...oh god.

I'll tell you guys if the new download goes through ok.

maneater February 18th, 2008 08:54 PM

issues?

ok so i down loaded limewire and after installation, when it begins to load...it gets to about 12% and a window pops up asking me to choose a saving folder..when i click next...it takes me to a dead end page?!?!?!?! no finish, next, nadda???? ...so i uninstalled and reinstalled it and the same thing happened??? has anyone experienced this??? and any suggestions on a course of action???:confused::confused:

thanks

retro February 18th, 2008 08:56 PM

I haven't had that problem...but then I haven't even managed to get to even 12% yet as my old downloads are stuck lol.

My tested new download is only on 10% right now, i'll tell you if i get that problem.

perrioli February 19th, 2008 12:10 AM

I had the problem before I got the new verison. I got so frustrated I removed LW completely and wasn't going to use it again. But I missed it so I had to pay for it again as my previous subscription had expired. When I did reinstall I got two movies fairly quickly, but I have about 10 now which aren't moving at all and, as retro said, some are even going backwards. Surely the LW people have to address this issue.

I got that when I reinstalled, you need to set up a new folder in your hard drive, I just called mine LW. I'm not at my own home PC now and I can't rember exactly what I done. I'll put it up when I get home. (which is about 6.00 pm Belfast time and it's now 8.16)

Lord of the Rings February 19th, 2008 12:44 AM

Ah Belfast ... warning ... if any of you are from the UK, that includes Ireland, then it may well be your ISP's at fault. Not necessarily but possibly. Most ISP's in UK are anti p2p sharing. And since most isp's there have the same overall owner such as Tiscali for example, they will employ different techniques to prevent sharing.

Try downloading a magnet link from here: + MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content
That is a site, so it should download fast. If not, your ISP is most likely at fault.

LeMarquis February 19th, 2008 03:00 AM

I deleted all the downloads that I had started before the update and the problem seems to have gone away.

The video files still freeze but after a few seconds of being frozen LW opens a dialogue box telling me the file is corrupted and asking if I want to continue downloading.

I've tried with two video files (with a lot of hosts) and happened on both. The videos turned out to be fine, so it must be a small corruption (like the ID tag or something)

Am trying to access the site but it's taking ages. Did you mean the site access or actual download within the site should load quickly?

maneater February 19th, 2008 12:18 PM

thanks

thank u belfast...ill try that when i get home....:PEACE:

retro February 19th, 2008 10:47 PM

Nope, the new video file i was testing was looking good for a while but it got stuck on 33%..and still my old video files wont move.

Things are looking bleak. :bangh::bangh:

Once you click one of the video links, it will open up in LW & start downloading.

hmm ... considering that is a site, not another user, then it does sound suspicious. Those magnet link files are free to copy.

A couple of options I can think of. (1a) One is back up all your settings in LW, make a note of them all. Then delete the LW prefs folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Vista users see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

(1b) Make sure your days to keep incomplete files is set to a large number such as 9999 days. The default age is 7 days.
(1c) Make sure your hard disk drives have plenty of space on them. And Defragment the drives occasionally. Remember, you can always right-click a download & change location or choose save as & choose location, if your main drive or partition is getting too full. In that case, I'd suggest changing your save/share location.

(2) Try another gnutella program such as Phex & see if same thing happens with those magnet link video files: Phex - Download
You can always uninstall Phex later. But if same problems with Phex, then sounds like your ISP's are causing the problems. BTW Phex has some nice attributes. One being that it connects to more gnutella client programs, unlike LW which mostly only connects to other LW users. And Phex has a size filter. ;) Phex's downside is the interface is not as intuitive to new users as LW is. It takes a little to get used to understanding how it works. :) (Note: for magnet links to download in Phex or another gnutella program, you will need to change default magnet handler program. Otherwise LW will try to download it as it does now.)

Cheers mate, i'll try those ideas. :)

retro February 22nd, 2008 12:37 PM

I've tried everything and im still having the same problems, downloads getting to a certain point then stopping or going backwards. :(

Anyone else still having similar trouble?

GorillaDust February 24th, 2008 01:05 PM

Weird download problem

I'm having exactly the same problem. Yesterday I updated to Limewire 4.16.6, and I started downloading three movies. (So unlike retro's situation, they hadn't been In Progress between Limewire versions) Two of them finally got to 100%, and stopped. I read in the forums that I should restart Limewire (this has worked for me in the past as well) so I restarted the whole computer and when I reconnected to Limewire, the two that had frozen at 100% dropped down to 75% and 81%, respectively.
They have now been "downloading" at over 100Kb/s for the past hour, and the percent hasn't moved at all! The one that's at 75 sometimes moves up to 76, and then drops back down to 75 again.
I've tried re-searching the items, but to no avail.
BTW, I'm in Canada, not the UK. Anyone who has had this problem as well found a solution? Should I restart the downloads? Is it a problem with my computer/program or the actual files?

I tried downloading a song just now, and it worked fine. Maybe just these files?? But they work as movies when I preview them...

retro February 24th, 2008 04:19 PM

I've tried restarting the downloads that got stuck and it made no difference. :(

perrioli February 26th, 2008 08:59 AM

I was able to download a few full movies last weekend. I had about a dozen on the go at the same time and started the downloads on Thursday night, I had to leave my pc on overnight and all through the Friday to get the movies I got.(about 6) I then switched it off on Friday night and back on on Saturday morning, but they made no further progress, a few of them were in the 80% region as well:bangh:. So it looks like continuous downloading may be the answer, which will have to be a weekend thing for me as I won't leave the pc on when I'm out of the house.

GorillaDust February 26th, 2008 06:55 PM

That may be it. I cancelled all three movies that had stalled and tried downloading only one from the start(but a different version/size/name, etc.) It finished successfully in one sitting. i haven't tried any more since then, but I will this weekend.
I just remembered that i changed one or two settings in the middle of the downloads that stalled, including the folder that files would download into. It said the changes wouldn't take place until I restarted limewire. I don't know if that was a factor. Either way, I hope it was just a one-time thing. All three are cancelled now and I'll put it behind me until it happens again.

retro February 27th, 2008 09:38 PM

I've just finally been able to download a video file, but as the last two posters have said I had to download it in one go, from start to finish.

So that must be the problem, we cant switch off limewire while a file is still downloading as then when we re start limewire it'll be stuck.

Why is this happening tho? because with the last limewire before the update that was never a problem.

perrioli February 28th, 2008 04:38 AM

Even then I'm still getting a few files that are stopping at a certain percentage and going no further.

The Limewire guys need to sort these bugs in the system out...it's certainly not our fault these issues are coming up.

shefflad February 29th, 2008 07:35 AM

lw blues

i had a similar problem after i had updated limewire my files would go up by 1% and then drop down by 1% and just carry on like that EXTREMELY annoying and not yet fixed either!!!!

birdy February 29th, 2008 09:00 PM

The helpers here aren't developers, just volunteers.

If you think there's a bug in the latest LW, you need to post at this other forum. Then the developers might see your posts.
Bugs and Beta Testing - LimeWire Forums

perrioli February 29th, 2008 10:07 PM

Thanks Birdy, I'll do that later. Everyone else with the problem should add to the thread when I do to show the extent of the problem.

retro March 2nd, 2008 10:18 PM

Thankyou for the link birdy, but can you post it again as when I click it nothing happens or I get an error page.

Im still having files getting stuck after having to switch limewire off and back on again.

Some of the longer files take so long to download in one go that it's impossible to keep my computer on for the ammount of time needed to get the job done...I just hope this major problem can be fixed by someone.

birdy March 2nd, 2008 11:23 PM

Hi retro,

That other forum seems to be down, I haven't been able to access it all day (so I can't post another link to it). Once the forum's back up, that link should work fine.

The new versions are horrible IMO, have you tried (or do you even want to) rolling back to an older version of LW?

If you'd like to revert to an older version, there are old versions available here: Old Version of Limewire Download
Or if you want a version that they don't have, PM me - if I have the installer saved, I'll host it.

retro March 3rd, 2008 02:38 PM

Thankyou very much birdy, i would very much like to go back to the last version of Limewire. :)

retro March 3rd, 2008 02:52 PM

Briiliant, i've got the old version back now and my downloads I lost before are downloading like a train now :) Thankyou Birdy, I love you ;)

perrioli March 4th, 2008 09:16 AM

Retro, let us know if your movie downloads continue the next time you switch your pc on or if they're still stalling.:xeri_ok1ani:

retro March 4th, 2008 10:12 AM

Perrioli, my downloads are still going strong and aren't stalling after re-starting my computer. :xeri_ok1ani:

Not only that but I found the old downloads I had to delete because they got stuck and they are back to downloading too....so it's all good news.

Im staying with Limewire 4.14.8. :super:

perrioli March 4th, 2008 11:00 AM

Thanks Retro. Is that the pro or basic version?

retro March 4th, 2008 12:34 PM

Basic version. :xeri_ok1ani:

cenabatista March 10th, 2008 02:43 AM

no downloaad window if using vista

I have windows vista, but now limewire doesn't work! I begin a search and click on the song I want but no download window appears, can anyone help with this problem? thanks in advance if you can.:)

busy_bryony March 10th, 2008 09:56 PM

Ah, I've had this problem too, I've just posted in a thread called negative downloading as some of my files are going backwards. I use the free version of Limewire, just upgraded to version 4.16 and thinking about it it is a file that was downloading when I did the upgrade that's having problems... but I realised that and deleted it (completely, from the recycle bin of my computer as well) and started again. The file I'm after is stuck at 52%... sometimes it gets up to 54%, but then always goes back down to 52% again - it's been like that for a week or so now, and I leave my computer on to download overnight most nights!

I was beginning to wonder whether it was my ISP... but you can't exactly go and ask them can you?! I'm intrigued by the Magnetmix.com suggestion. Since I can only download overnight due to only having unlimited downloads between midnight and 8am (when I'm usually asleep!) I can't download from a website as that's not enough time to download a whole film. What would happen to it when my computer automatically goes onto standby just before 8am? And could I pause it when I re-start my computer in the evening on getting home from work, until I could start it again after midnight? I only have a 1GB download limit/month during the day so one film would use up most of this on its own!

Roxy22 March 11th, 2008 05:56 PM

Error Message

I just recently downloaded LimeWire & at first it was working great until suddenly every file I tried downloading, an Error window would pop up saying that "You are already downloading this file" When obviously I am not.:bangh: Has anyone else had this problem before!?

busy_bryony March 11th, 2008 06:13 PM

Seem to have solved my problems

Re. my post 2 above this, I now seem to have solved my problem of video files getting stuck and even going backwards (despite a week of leaving my computer on overnight at reasonable 25kbps download speeds) by uninstalling Limewire version 4.16 and re-installing 4.14 from the link someone provided in the list above. FYI it was only video files I was having trouble with, audio files seemed fine. The two video files that were stuck at 42 and 52% respectively are now both up in the 60% range! :xeri_ok1ani: I will report back in a few days and see if they have finished downloading.

B.

valt76 March 12th, 2008 06:26 PM

weird things are happening to me when I try to download files...I installed for the first time limewire starting with the 4.16.6 version. Now while downloading, I have a file that has reached 22% and despite showing a downloading speed since quite long, isn't moving at all. Another one is bangi jumping from 10% to 11% and back. Right now the 22% file went back to 21%....!!!! It looks like they cannot get any further. Did anyone experienced the same problem? Is there any solution?
Thanks
Valter

busy_bryony March 12th, 2008 07:07 PM

for Valter

See my post just above, I had the same problem, this seems to be a problem with the new version of Limewire - use the link helpfully provided by someone earlier in this thread to download the slightly older 4.14 version of Limewire and this has solved the problem for me.

Does anyone else get the problem though that if you pause a download, the whole of Limewire will freeze up and can only be closed via Task-manager? If I find a rare file I want to download now when all my download slots are already full I now find it's simpler to delete the download I want to pause from the list and then find it in my list of incomplete files and resume it - works the same but is rather "round the houses". Obviously another bug in the system that needs ironing out!

Bryony

valt76 March 12th, 2008 09:58 PM

thank you....I did download the older version and it works fine...

RobertR March 13th, 2008 01:25 AM

.....so it must be a small corruption
like a virus file attached to the video maybe?
Best you run a thorough virus scan over those corrupted files just in case.

Momocock June 13th, 2008 03:42 PM

Does any of you have a REAL solution at those problem ??

Can't launch LW: Bouncing in Dock (click on link) .. lots of things to try. :) Including JUM's build. ;) Sounds like you need to delete your LW prefs folder for a start. And repair permissions. :)

Glad to hear you can get 20 KB/s. Probably same user's upload capacity is just that. :)

How fast are your Uploads?
