Default download /upload meter...

hello,

i have a built in download/upload meter with my internet provider...
problem is i can only download/upload 12 gig

now my question is; what causes this meter to rise??
is it only the downloading part or the uploading part 2? because my internet use is average and my meter keeps rising fast...
(must be limewire)
so i would like to know what uploading is and what it does with my meter,
and if it causes my meter 2 rise 2 fast, how can i shut it off...?

limit the uploading speed in the options. Don't turn them off because that's not very nice. If you want to download then why not share as well? If noone shared then you wouldn't have anything to download.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on your ISP. I have had e.g. a download limit but not an upload limit in the past.

BTW I thought you said in you first post that you could only download/upload 12GB, so why are you asking a question you would seem to know the answer to?

If you are trying to justify not sharing and just leeching of the network, you will not get any blessings from any member here.

12GB download a month is a joke if you are an active downloader, so maybe the thing you should be looking at is unlimited Internet.

im an active user but i only download a song here and there
and if what i think is right the download meter or shall i say upload meter consumes much much more then i download....

so is there any way to compromise...? i mean uploading in accordance of my downloading??

p.s: my download/upload meter is something that i can't bypass or else id'have have to pay more money to my isp...

i have had days with 1.6 gig and mostly everything from limewire
(i suspect it is limewire) and id'like to surf on a normal speed som more besides downloading som songs ....

cos smallband ain't a livin....

Well one thing would be to not keep Limewire on always. If you just use it now and then, just keep it open for a few hours every time you use it, or even shortly after you are done downloading just check if you are uploading to anyone. If not then close it. If you are then right-click on the Limewire icon in your active tasks icons (bottom right) and choose to exit when active transfers finish.

Another thing is to disable UltraPeer Capabilities. It's in the options somewhere, sorry I can't be more specific but I don't have it installed right now.

A good way to see if it is Limewire or something else using your bandwidth is using a firewall that shows active connections. I would recommend Comodo Personal Firewall: Free Firewall Protection Software Best Firewall Computer Security Free Personal Firewall

Limewire uses bandwidth sending and receiving messages about searching and what you are sharing all the time. That is why if you are an UltraPeer you will be sending and receiving much more data because of the increased amount of connections.

If you don't think Limewire is working much it can be something else on your system. That's why I would recommend Comodo Personal Forewall. It will allow you to see active connection and how much data each process is sending/receiving.

What I meant by active tasks is this:
