Hi,
Need help, after the recent download of an update, all files in the library of Limewire have changed to wma files, even new searches show only wma files and no itunes files. Could some one walk me thru to change back to i tunes. thanks |

What program did you update?
.wma is the file designation that Microsoft uses when it compresses music files. Strange that it would change mp3 files though, cos mp3's generally play fine in WMP and don't necessarily need to be converted to .wma files. Last edited by RobertR; April 30th, 2008 at 09:10 AM. |

Do you mean converted them or else, just showing the wma icon. There's a big difference. It means that you have probably opened WMP and it, like most windows audio programs demands to be the default audio program. To change back, right click any of those files, choose open with, select iTunes and tick the Always open with option.
Else if it actually converted them, go to iTunes preferences, Advanced, Importing tab, and change conversion format back to mp3. If it did convert them, you can always get rid of the wma files and re-add the mp3's from the LW download folder. |

And, if something worse has actually happened and you have a particularly nasty virus that changes the file extension name of .mp3s,
Click on > .mp3 File Name Change Problems? Try Rename-It! This, hopefully, will be a 'last resort' thing to do, but it makes sense for you to know about it ! The program is safe and clean and is another gem from Sourceforge.

Thanks RobertR, LOTR and Ursula.
Things have gotten worse, my whole library of 900+ songs has just vanished. Let me figure out and I'll need help again. |
