Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Arrow Interrupting downloads

I think the isp is being paid to interrupt us 24 hrs a day with a program that continually breaks the downloads. The LimeWire window vibrates and shakes constantly. You can see this happening when the cursor flashes because Antivirus is kicking in when it is not a continuous packet. You can also click the Connection box and watch the Ultrapeer list showing connections broken at 100%, scrolling down through the list of connections.

Unhappy Yet another victim of "requery" and "0KB/s"

Yep, me too! Makes you wonder if the programmers read this forum. I get that "Requery sent, waiting XXXXs for results" stuff on almost all search hits. Doing a repeat search sometimes, but only RARELY, seems to jolt some of them into action. And if there's a file on my download list waiting for results, then I can't dl it from any other hosts because Limwire says "You're already downloading that".

And then if I do manage to get a dl to catch, half the time it gets stuck on the dreaded "0KB/s" dl speed and nothing downloads, but it holds up the queue for anything else I'm trying to dl.

Like y'all, this problem started w/ the latest upgrade.

We Mac types don't have a lot of options when it comes to dl-ing music, so I hope Limewire gets its act together better. While grateful for the free software, there's no way I'm gonna pay for the "Pro" version when it is so extremely buggy.

When I first downloaded limewire (version 2.3.4) a week ago it worked okay, I could download files and the speeds were usually good (sometimes). However, now I find that I can rarely download anything, yet my uploads are constantly packed with sending files. Since I am sharing over 900 files (most not downloaded via Limewire), I really resent this.

I have used audiogalaxy for a long time now for music and it has always worked perfectly. Not once have I had a problem with it.

My question is, why would I want to share my 900 plus files, and perhaps those I haven't opted to share (another 4,000 in other directories) when I am getting nothing in return?
The answer is, I won't. It appears to me that if Limewire doesn't correct this, then it will only worsen because people like me who have massive hard drive space to save all these files and a cable modem will not participate in sending when we get nothing in return.

I am about to dump Limewire altogether because of this and the lack of search capability--my searches always take forever and return very few results.

I am happy to share the thousands of files I have if this is fixed. I often leave my computer connected all night and most of the day, but recently I am signing off a lot and shutting Limewire down because all I'm doing is giving everyone else hundreds of files while I get none (seriously, no files in 12 hours--not even a percentage of one when I have over 50 listed to download--that's simply not acceptable).

If not, does anyone know another service I can use that actually works?

Thumbs down THIS SUCKS!!!

I am a NEW BUYER of Limewire PRO...what a WASTE OF MONEY!!! NOT A SINGLE DOWNLOAD. I have even E-Mailed the moderators (as instructed in the FAQ's) with no response whatsoever. Anyone have ANY IDEA on a service that actually WORKS??? I am only happy at the fact that I spent 8.50 and not 28.50.

There are a number of reasons why your download may be slow (or non-existent)...

1. The first files you get will be those that are on fast servers or with few other people queing to get files from the same machine. This means that the selection of files you have left to download are those on slower connections and heavily accessed machines. So your first files will come down quickly, subsequent ones will probably take longer.

2. The 2.4 Beta version of limewire will wait a much more reasonable period of time before requeries. The timer now maxes out at five minutes although it won't necessarily requery every five minutes. But it certainly won't wait two or three hours.

3. I have found that on my connection, if I leave the upload speed set at the default, it knocks out my download bandwidth (if anyone else finds this is the case then comment and I'll report it as a bug). You can decrease the upload bandwidth threshold through Tools|Uploads|Basic and the slider at the bottom. This change won't work instantly, uploads have to drop out of your queue first, but no more will be inserted into the queue until you drop below the threshold you've set. I set mine just below my theoretical limit - this seems to still allow a good upload speed while not getting in the way of my download speed

4. There is an option in LimeWire to reduce file sharing with freeloaders. A freeloader is detected by the number of files they have available for upload. If you only have none or a very few files shared you may find that other hosts are refusing your requests (file not found). I have this enabled, although my 'number of files' limit is very low.

5. You may have picked up a really poor set of peers or ultrapeers. It can happen that you connect to a really poor set of hosts and that these aren't very well connected themselves. Try looking for a different set by manually deleting connections or disconnecting entirely and reconnecting (File|Disconnect). You'll usually have to wait a few minutes while LimeWire tries to connect to new peers.

6. You can manually look for new peer sites with the file you are after by researching (or doing a new search) on the file name. The download will automatically pick up any new addresses from a search that you do. This is only worth doing when the network configuration has changed - but this does seem to change pretty rapidly at the moment.

7. There are some fairly annoying features with downloading which are due to be fixed in an upcoming version. The introduction of hashing should improve both the quality of downloads and their chance of success (theoretically files which have been renamed can still be identified as the same file based on the hash code - and errors in files will be obvious /before/ downloading).

8. Anything else is your problem. Although if you do find a way to increase download speed/completion I'd love to try it - I'm still a long, long way from 100% utilization of speed and 100% success on downloading.

Default Oops - rethink on 3.

I think I may have got 3 wrong...

Most cable and DSL connections are on a contention ratio - anything from 10:1 up to 50:1. This means that the bandwidth is shared with other users on the same line (or perhaps the same exchange).

If those other users have the gall to use the connection at the same time as you then your download speeds will be slashed. But chances are they are downloading rather than uploading so your upload bandwidth will probably still be quite good.

I don't think there's much you can do about this short of buying a dedicated line.

Mark

P.S. Could the people sharing my line please stop downloading. Thankyou. :^)

Requerying means LimeWire started another search and waits for search results.

Just downloaded Limewire on the advice of a friend as to how great is it. Everything I try to download just continuously says "requery sent ..." and nothing happens. What a disappointment
