Default Extreme slow downloading / connection

Heres my situation, i have been using limewire for awhile now, without any problems, 3 weeks ago i got a new computer, installed Limewire and a new internet connection (same ISP) and router, everything was working great, was getting >150kb/sec downloads, etc.

Then 2 days ago, suddenly this problem occured (same time that i couldn't access any email websites, etc.. but a system restore sorted that). Now i struggle to get searches to come up, with downloads. If i am lucky to find them, trying to download them they just start DLing (if they don't need more sources, which is usually the case here) at 0 kb/sec, ie. going nowhere. On the rare occasion one hits 25 or sa kb/sec, no idea how or why.

The green connectivity bars fluctuate between 1/5 to 5/5, being at any x/5, its not stable.

It also says Limewire detects a Firewall, i turned off Windows Firewall, i fiddled about with the exceptions to make sure they are off, yet it still says it detects a firewall. I have no idea what other firewall i could have.

I recently tried switching from Limewire 4.18.3 to 4.12.6, to no Avail did the problem solve.

Heres my information:
1. OS version? - Windows Vista, Admin Account
2. What firewalls you have? - Windows Firewall, switched off
3. How much ram? - 8GB
4. Hard Disk space available? - 394GB of 465GB
5. Connection type? - Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? - Router, D-Link DSL 2640R
7. Where are you trying to connect from? - Home, House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? - LW 4.12.6, Java 1.6.0_07
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? - AOL (lol)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? - It works
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? - No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? - Stated above, though i wouldnt say experienced.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? - Yes, stated in opening statement
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? - Not a computer Wiz, but connected using Ethernet, looking at Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewall Config, it says "Use UPnP"
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? - I just downloaded Avast today, had nothing on previous. (started happening before downloading Avast)
16. What country are you living in? - England
17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? - Nothing I recall.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Your modem/router has a Nat Firewall within...So you could give port forwarding a shot....

These are your instructions.....

Port Forwarding for the Dlink DSL-2640R

I tried sorting it out, it hasn't helped onebit.

btw i think this problem consists further then Limewire, i tried using Bearshare, some other p2p software (forgot name) and then BitComet to try torrents, all of them wont allow me to download at all.

another thing to note, if i try to download anything (such as Avast) i cannot download any faster then 40kb/sec.. usually between 6-40.

i was on the phone today with AOL, they put me through to www.BTOpenworld.com/speedtest and i could download from that at a typical 120kb/sec (which my connection should).

i also downloaded and ran spybot today, to remove any spyware, there wasn't much and it didnt help.

my 2 problems, to clarify:
- normal downloads capped at 40kb/sec (outside of using BitComet, which works perfectly).
- no torrents or downloads will download at all, on multiple programs.

Sounds to me like your ISP have something to do with this, I know AOL can be known for shaping connection speeds....Hence your speed being fine when they sent you to that site for the test...

Here are a few threads about AOL....

And this one might explain the slow download speed when you tried to download another anti-virus app....AOL want you to use their security..

i talked with AOL and, so i was told, is although they dont support using p2p software, they do not disable using it. I have been with AOL for like 4 years or so, and have always been using p2p, be it Kazaa, Morpheus or Limewire.
