Default receiving non-audio, corrupt files, media usage etc

longtime limewire user, windows xp
i have been receiving many files which are not mp3 audios, yet they say they are and show audio icon before i download. after, i download them and almost half corrupt and end up showing an icon which looks like a disk (has purple bar across top, light blue and red shape below). i dont know what type of files these are. when i try to play them i get message on windows media player about "media usage rights." by "coolpixhost.biz". This all seemed to begin after i downloaded itunes, which changed all my mp3 files to their icons. i have uninstalled, but the corruption and the weird files keep coming. am i just receiving non-audio files from other peers? did itunes install something which now makes files non-audio or no access because of rights? How do I receive normal mp3 audio files again, some are ok but about half are corrupt and show weird non-audio icon? help!

I can not open any of the downlaods I make. I either get redirected to some ****** site or a the audio will not play due to a missing codec. Any suggestions?

Leave the Redirects alone. Delete.
Codec's... What Media Player are you useing??? Let me Guess, WMP Huh??
It Always Needs something. If I'm correct in my assumption, Loose WMP and try something else. VLC Media is a nice one to try. See Link
