Unhappy Download just disappeared - help!!!!

Help!! For the past THREE WEEKS I've been downloading a huge set of video files (58 gb total). I had to clear out a huge amount of disk space on my computer to accomodate this. After long, long wait today I was finally at 99%.

I know the files were good, because I was already able to watch most of them, even long before downloading was complete.

Anyway, now when I when I went back to check on it, it disappeared!!!

Limewire says the download was 100% complete, but under status it says "disk problem". The files are not in my incomplete folder or in my saved folder, recycle bin, or anywhere. In fact, my hard drive now has 58 gb free!! It looks like the Limewire program just up and erased the whole thing on it's own!! Why did it do that?? The only thing I can think of, is it had some problem moving it from my incomplete folder to my saved folder. But I still had a fair amount of space left (4 gb) , and if it had any trouble, why didn't it just leave it in the incomplete folder? Why did it just erase the whole thing without my permission??

Is there any hope of retrieving it? And how can I prevent this in the future? There's no way I want to go through this again.

If you were downloading 58GB it sure wasn't Gnutella, so why use an inferior Gnutella client instead of a proper BitTorrent program. Download Vuze (Azureus) or uTorrent and never do such stupid thing as using Limewire to download a 58GB sized torrent again ever.

That's how you prevent it.

You can try file recovery software to maybe retrieve the files, but there are no guaranties.

Well, the problem wasn't the downloading, it was what happened after the download. I got the whole file. But for some unknown reason Limewire decided to dump the whole thing. I'll try another system, but if you are so against Limewire, why are you in this forum?

Thanks, I tried that today, but Limewire deleted them so thoroughly it was as if they were formatted over. I recovered all of them, but most are totally unplayable now, and they are totally out of sequence. I'll have to start over...

I used to use Limewire. Back when it was actually a decent client and only connected to Gnutella. Back then I had nothing against Limewire. That all changed when they all of a sudden decided to jump on BitTorrent networks to steal files.

The politics the Limewire devs are using now are despicable. Things like blocking older Limewire versions, forcing Limewire users to use their crap bittorrent supported clients. Intrusive upgrade popups, forced DHT, not being able to turn of the Limewire shop.. and a million other bad things about it.

I am staff here and BTW this is the Gnutella forums, not the Limewire forums. If you want the people who lie to you and praise Limewire's Torrent support through the roof, then go to forum.limewire.org

There are other quite good clients like Phex, which stick to maximizing the Gnutella network, instead of intruding on other networks. If you want to try it just click the picture in my signature, which will take you to download page.

I just dl'd Phex actually thanks to someone in another thread before I saw this and while I haven't had much of a chance to get used to it, it was freaking nice to see search RESULTS for a change. I'd forgotten what it was like to have software that works.

I just about fell off my chair at the speed.

I don't have any particular preference in torrent downloaders. But if you are staff, then certainly you know that this is the "Limewire cross-platform" thread underneath the "Current Gnutella Client forums". I am only here because this is the very forum that the Limewire program sent me to when I hit "forums" on their help menu. I will give Phex a try as well.

Well even if this is the Limewire sub-forum, I am still staff here, including in this sub-section, so I had some choices:

1. Ignore and let someone else answer, probably giving the same answer BTW.
2. Tell you to go to Limewire forums beta support and be lied to.
3. Actually give you sound advise, which I feel I did.

Which do you prefer, so I know what to do next time?

No actually, I appreciate your advice, and tried Vuze instead. The ability to pick and choose what I will download out of torrent will save me a lot of time.

But once again, I'm just pointing out there are no other limewire forums to go to (at least not that I can find). When you go to forum.limewire.org, and choose technical support, it takes you directly to this forum instead.

I had a similar thing happen to me. All my partially complete files would not show up as downloads when I restarted Limewire. I got an error message. I found them in the imcomplete file area. Hitting resume made them restart at 0% complete.
