used frostwire for years, worked fine. the other day i started it after not using it for a while, and no connection. I downloaded the new frostwire hoping this would fix the problem, but still no connection. If I go to the connections tab, it list several options, but none are connecting. Yesterday I saw how to open up gnutuella.net file, and change it. This worked for alot of people, but not for me. What can I be doing wrong, esspecially since frostwire use to work. heres my stats...
WinXp Linksys router UPnP Enabled New Version frostwire Windows firewall OFF Windstream High Speed DSL **There is a brickwall infront of the world icon indicating a firewall, but this has always been there, and it use to work regardless. Thanks guys |

From what I know, your model of Linksys isn't too reliable in UPnP mode. You could try port forwarding - that will hopefully get rid of the firewall & might increase your download speed as well
![]() The instructions are here: Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54G Those instructions are for LimeWire but don't worry - setup's exactly the same for FW. You'll need to set up a static IP address first - there's a link for that within those port forwarding instructions. FW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router's setup all need to be the same number ![]() Rather than running without a firewall, it's better to use a software firewall & make sure that it's allowing FW. Check the link here, the instructions for LW are the same for FW: User Cant Connect - LimeWire Also make sure that there's no Windstream firewall causing problems: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/218807-post7.html You could also have a look here, for some tips to help performance (mainly the first few posts by murasame). Things are exactly the same for FW: A few things to consider while configuring Limewire for optimal performance... |

Well did you check to see if you even have a Windstream firewall?? That would be a place to start.

i went to windstream.net, and once i allowed active x, my option for changing the firewall left, however, i looked at another option (speedstream instructions) and at the last page its talking about how to set it... give me a few minutes, stand by

under the linksys, the only firewall check mark is "filter multicast"

Try port forwarding. Go back to the port forwarding instructions that I gave in post #3. Read them carefully.
Why are you looking at speedstream instructions? Edit - Do you have a Speedstream device as well as a Linksys? If you do, what's the model? Last edited by birdy; October 2nd, 2008 at 12:27 AM. Reason: Asking extra questions |
