Maybe false positives?

Have you asked at the Norton forum?

This might have some info: Adware.gen - Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus - Norton Community

I don't know.

I don't use either of those programs. I'm just giving you info that I found

Maybe updates of either Norton or Ad-aware, or both, have magnified the conflict between the two?

New AV detecting Old Viruses

Hi cootmaster

I may have an answer to your question, namely why is my new AV detecting old viruses that my previous AV missed.

Well, a friend of mine had the same problem when he used to use NAV2005 so that when he upgraded to NAV2007 he found a previously undetected virus.

Providing what you have are not false positives, then the way to look at it is like an "arms race", like the old arms race between the US and communist Russia. Each army, in this case the virus/malware writers and the protective apps writers, are trying to out do each other. Virus/malware writers, funded internationally by organised crime, are constantly looking for ways to evade detection, that way you do not know that you are infected. While anti-malware writers are looking to catch up on and, in most cases, get the jump on the new breed of malware that is constantly being produced.

I guess that you found some malware designed to evade your then protective app but your new AV caught them.

By the way, I also use NAV2009 (actually NIS2009, which contains both NAV and NPF 2009), as well as six other anti-spyware/malware apps.

but i run a scan on h drive every sat
and find nothing untill a app one sat blows
so is it not seeing it other weeks?

these are aps i run since 1998 or even early versions of frost hand they ran fine

its likely that Norton updated its virus definitions apps that where not found to be a virus before could show as a virus now still could be a false positive.

ya trillian 4117 beta is started to alert kayspry

the software they blew were old versions of frostwire 413x 417x
which i had for years
and a old flv you tube downloader
i switched to vdownloader w just a ask tool bar and not suspicious junk

now as i get software lets say frostwire 4,18.0 before installing it is fine\
this includes 418 0 1 2 3 4....

then 419 comes out which is fine all sudden
ill notice 418 0 blows
i removed all outdated software

seems old old dated exes blow
so as new norton defs come out its odd it catches stuff posed as clean

so how we know whats safe to install
