Question Getting Started

I'm quite new at this. I have Phex 0.8.0.33 open and it appears to be running. I typed in "u2" as a search term and clicked "Search." Status is "0 returned, 0 filtered, searching..." This result is the same for all search attempts.

Although the Phex uptime is at an hour, the Net tab indicates 0 hosts, 0 files, 0 bytes. My PC is part of a LAN (at work).

Am I doing something wrong with Phex or do you suspect Phex is being blocked at my work place?

(Most of the posts I've read here are over my head, so feel free to dumb it down a bit for me.) Thanks!

The search term "u2" is a bit short. Some nodes will ignore such short search terms.

The Net tab statistics are a bit buggy, don't try to interprete what they display. Almost every value is wrong...

Could be that Phex is blocked or that some commenly used ports are blocked (6346 and 6347). You are then still able to connect to other ports but you will not have access to many of the shared files offered.

Just try the following:
Wait until you have about 3 to 6 connections on the network tab. To speed up connections you can click "Query GWebCache" once or twice in a while. You will see if there are any ports with 6346 or 6347 or just other ports.
Once you have that done search for something common, that ensures you results. Something like "Beethoven" or "Symphony" should usually work and give good results, but you can also try something like "Shakira", of course only for testing.

If you see results try to download... If you find many files with the same SHA1 value and different host your download chance and speed will raise.

I hope this was not too complicated... :-)

Gregor
