Default can't connect after sp2

I am using Phex 2.0.0.76 with JRE 1.5. When I was using XP SP1 everything was fine. After I upgraded to SP2, Phex is having problems connecting to any remote host. It keeps reporting "error: connect time out" in the status field.

I have tried turning off windows firewall and still does not help.

The symptom seems to be that the "my address" field is always showing "127.0.0.1:12530". I have tried to force my ipaddress by using "export Host ip as" but it does not seem to help.

Can someon please provide some suggestions?

Try reducing the number of connections, you attempt.

Increease the time-out time in preferences (SP2 imposes some restrictions on the number of simultaneous connections).

That's what comes to my mind at first.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried increasing the connection timeout to 15 seconds, and it does not see to help.

One key observation I made with Phex's behavior is that:
- in sp1, phex will start with "my address: 127.0.0.1:<port>" and within seconds change the ip address to my publicly visible address automatically
- in sp2, phex just stays with "my address: 127.0.0.1:<port>", and never grab on to my public ip address.

Is there anything I can do to change this behavior?

(p.s. I have tried exporting my public address in options and it does not see to help.)

Your adress stays 127.0.0.1 if you don't find a connection, as soon as you are connected your adress changes into your IP
Have you tried to reinstall Phex and delete the phex folder in Documents and Settings\your account name\phex ?
Note, you do lose your settings and partial files info when doing that.

Thanks for explaining when the ipaddress changes from 127.0.0.1.

I have just tried RaaF's suggestion of reinstalling Phex and ensuring the phex folder in Documents and Settings\your account name\phex was removed. Unfortunately it had no effect. I still can't connect.

SP2 is definitely giving me grief...

krapbucket,
Have you added phex to the WinXP sp2 firewall settings ?
Read this thread in the limewire forums.

And of course you can always uninstall SP2 under software in your configuration screen.

Hi Raaf:

Thanks for continue to try to help me.

I have turned off Windows firewall via Control Panel, and turned it off in the Services (via administrative tools). I turned it off because I am trying to get SP2 to "behave" like SP1.

Despite turning off windows firewall completely, I still can not get Phex to connect *sigh*

I just thought I'd throw this out: if you're trying to make SP 2 behave like SP 1 then why not simply uninstall SP 2 (like Raaf suggests)?

Default Sp Problems

I just installed Phex and so far, I like it.

I have a solution to the Sp2 problems with the number of connections.

http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=tools

This page is to download a small patch to fix the connections limit. I came across it while having problems with shareaza. Works fine for me.

Great, thanks!
I published a FAQ entry about this on the Phex website.
