¡¡¡Español!!!

Bueno, yo también hablo español. También hablo un poco de francés y siempre quise aprender alemán, pero la verdad no tengo mucho tiempo.

The other day I went back to the IRC channel, and there was noone there, except somebody whose nickname started with 'n' I think. I can't remember well. Maybe we should schedule some time for us to meet.

That's right. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. First is Mandarin Chinese and English is 3rd, in case some wondered.

But this poll isn't about the most spoken language in the world, but about the most spoken language by members of Gnutella Forums.

This poll's purpose probably needs to be cleared up a bit. This poll will be helpful in determining if there's a need for a foreign language forum, and if so, which.

I hope that the intention of adding another language section to Gnutella Forums is to bring in NEW people in greater numbers.
This will not be served by accomodating the current users who are participating in the poll.
Going by the poll results only one would have to conclude that it would be necessary to start a Deutsch section. This would, I think, be a mistake.
As I have mentioned elsewhere, and which is supported by comments of facts from cultiv8r, español is the sensible choice and would have the potential of bringing in huge numbers of new participants.
It is also easily understood by Italians and to a slightly lesser degree by Português (and Brasil) and French......... That is a lot of people, right?

Is there really another choice for the intital launch of an additional language here?

In my experience more German people than Spanish people visited such sides...

Have a look on bearshare.net their Spanish forum is not very populated there... and there is a German bearshare side with several thousand of posts...

and don´t forget that not everybody own a computer, so if many people speak Spanish this doesn´t mean that many people have a comp and visit the internet - there are many poor areas in south america!

But I think "if" we add new forums... the favourites are German, Dutch, French and Spanish... perhaps Chinese ;)

The good thing is we have mods that speak these languages!

So lets see what the poll say in some days... :)

Yes, I understand (written) Italian almost perfectly, and I think a Portuguese or a French could understand quite a lot also.

FYI: One other thing that needs to be considered, is which countries are most wired. That probably accounts for some of the poll results too.

I once visited a historic site in France where the guide asked in french:
"if you don't understand french, please raise your hand"

All I wanna say is that it is logic why chinese, japanese, russian and arabic got so little votes those people don't come here at all, why should they ?

Yeah, there should be a Latin forum! ;) Although you'd have to invent the words for Gnutella, Morpheus, Vinnie, etc.
