The one thing that could make a significant increase in Gnutella's amount of users is the closure of another P2P network (and I don't I want that, of course). That's what happened after Napster had to close and after Morpheus was kicked out of Fasttrack.

Well, Gnutella's popularity has in some way been decaying, especially taking into account its popularity when Napster became obsolete, but it's certainly not dying. The worst enemy (now that I think of it, enemy may not be the most appropiate word) of Gnutella are its own users. If we don't share and we don't accept incoming connections we will be harming the network.

I did use SHAREZA. now I'm on a diffrent p2p system. not gnutella, with real good speed for people with modem.

What P2P network are you on that isn't gnutella? Its good for modems? I have broadband cable (100mbps), is there anything good for that?

Usenet...

Or you could try one of those "serverless" networks who say they are dencentralized but weather if they really are or not is really debateable.

WinMX

I thought that WinMX uses a decentralized system for its servers.
If thats the case, I already use it... For finding stuff, it rocks... For downloading, it really, really sucks.

BTW, according to Streamcast, the amount of users in GNet are over 1.000.000 (but I don't know if this numbers are real)

By means of version 1.9, Morpheus further distances itself from p2p competitors with multiple simultaneous searches, an integrated web browser with a built-in search engine, and is the first peer-to-peer community to incorporate instant messaging capabilities.

Downloads: 100,000,000
Simultaneous Users: 1,000,000
