unworking MP3's---part 2---part 3 Hello fellow music people, i have a prob with some mp3 downloads some songs download fine and others download as a file and not a MP3. Has anyone have this prob before and how can i fix it? Thanks for the help. Thanks for the replies, The files get downloaded and look just like a blank file with the right top corner bent down. I have software that can convert certin files to MP3 format but these will not convert so i have to think its not even close to being an MP3. I dont know if there a file or what buy they don't open they dont do anything. I'm a Macintosh man and i do select audio in Limewire. Last edited by MP3Guy; August 25th, 2001 at 05:32 AM. |

Misnamed files or SPAM... I can see two possibilities off the top of my head, but it would be very helpful if you would more fully describe the "files" that are downloaded where mp3s were expected. Are these files the same lengrh as the expected mp3? If so, try renaming the file to an *.MP3 because for some reason your servent didn't... More likely, are these files disgustingly small. Are they .URLs masquerading as mp3 QueryHits? These are spam, and I've only seen very few of them to date... What happens is you Query, and some spammer returns his spam as a queryhit. When you request the file (which appears as a reasonable-length mp3), you send your GET request and are rewarded with a 122 or so byte file that holds only a URL. *******s! So what does your non-working file look like? What's its extension and size? |

you are using windows, right? gnutella allows to share not only music, there can be almost any type of file. so you probably didn't download a music-file. the "picture for the file", ist determined by the extension, of the file. a file ending with ".mp3" will (usually) be a music file, and will also look like this. unfortunately, windows usually doesn't show that extension, so you can only determine the typ of the file, by the picture it draws. (forunately the win-explorer has an option to show them.) what servent are you using? you can tell limewire to look only for audio files. others will only show you the extension, and you want to download a ".mp3"-file if you are looking for your favourit song hth - michas |
