Angry What uploaded ??

Hi, total newbie to p2p here.

Firstly I was scammed by http://mp3musiclive.com - but that is another story and I have put it down to experience.

However the slight worry I have is that during my first Limewire session, when I did not configute Zonealarm in any way, or define any folders for sharing, my ISP daily stats showed that 100M was uploaded that day - against a normal 1M.

So what the heck was lifted of my PC?

My PC gets a clean bill of health from Norton Anti Virus, Lavasoft and Spybot.

Should I be worried ?

Your uploads can be seen in the monitor window, but I think this is set by default to clear all completed uploads, so you will not see much there!

go to options or preferences>uploads>Basic>Clear uploads>uncheck the box>apply >ok

Then you will see all the uploads that occur in a session until you manually clear them. (I gather doing this uses more computer resourses, but I lke to see what's going on)

100MB is not a lot in audio terms. it is the size of a good sized album with a decent quality bitrate

By default your shared folder will be your download folder, and so , again by default, any thing you download is imediately available for upload.

The default settings can all be changed in options or preference

Let us know if this helps and if you are still worried.

Default Thanks, but ...

Thanks - yes that helps a bit. I know 100M is not a lot, but I was just surprised to see it go - and I had very little of interest to anyone in the defined download folder.

I guess my thinking was along the lines of
- I downloaded Limeware from a scamster http://www.musicmembersarea.com/login.asp

As these are bad guys why wouldn't they use the opportunity to install a modified version of Limeware that would give them access to my complete computer, then look for interesting personal id / financial type info that they might be able to use to their advantage?

..... OK - call me paranoid, but is there any evidence of this sort of thing happening?

I have uninstalled Limeware for the time being - possibly never to return.

I would say that you have a right to be worried, BUT that you seem to have all the protection you need from Norton and spy bot etc, so provided they are up to date and running properly I think you should not worry. My reason for say ing that is this:

Since version 4.9.29 or so The default setting of Limewire has, I think, been to share new downolads irrespective of whether they are files you would normally share. The next time you restart Limewire these files will not be shared. and in retrospect you cannot find out exactly what was shared.

However, and If I don't say this, otheres will particularly UKBobboy. There are people, and organizations out there who will get into your computer if they possibly can and nothing on any computer connected to the internet is 100% safe.

This thread makes for interesting reading on the subject, and I could point you to many more!

I have re-read your post and I can not work out if you are still using your scam version of Limwewire or if you have downloaded a fresh one. Needless to say I hope very much it is the latter.

yes ................... but it will not take a 100MB upload to lift financial imformation from our computer.

Is another of the many threads worth looking at. I feel I might be guilty of trying to play down the risks you face using p2p... I certainly have in the past.

Let us know how you feel about this ... but remember that with the correct precautions thousands of people are using Limewire without problem.

I am not using any version of Limeware - uninstalled. IF I ever load again it will be a pucca fresh one.

Meanwhile I remain concerned so I am monitoring things, and changing a few passwords!
