Default Installation -still- won't work!

Hi.

I accidentally posted this the first time as a reply to a thread instead of a new thread; and I wasn't registered yet. So apologies, but here I go again:

I tried installing Limewire with JRE 1.4. I got the same error messages other people are complaining about. So I tried installing 1.3.1 instead. _Same_ error messages. To wit:

Launching installer...

...And yes, I am running JRE 1.3.1. To wit:

YOur problems sounds like it is using the wrong JVM (java virtual machine). Type this command to verify:

which java

That will let you know if it is using your recently installed java.

Try this link if the wrong JVM is the case:

Default aha... kaffe _does_ get in the way...

OK, my error... kaffe does manage to foul things up after all. I uninstalled it and LimeWire installed fine. Still won't run... :-)

Now the error message is:

/usr/java/jre1.3.1_03/bin/i386/native_threads/java: relocation error: /usr/java/jre1.3.1_03/lib/i386/libpreemptive_close.so: symbol __libc_sendto, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

How are you trying to run LimeWire? "sh LimeWire.sh" or "java -jar LimeWire.jar".

Default ah, thanks...

Yes...

I was doing sh runLime.sh.

Okay. Now it's running. Looks lovely. Now let's try her out...

Thanks.

We all need to make this a bit clearer... :-)

What really needs to be done is your LimeWire.sh file needs to be modified as it isn't compatible with your system. That is why the java -jar LimeWire.jar command worked instead. That script needs to be updated and I will take a stab at it doing just that in another two hours as I am swamped with work but I needed to take a break right quick at this point.
