![]() i finally installed limewire and got it to run once, but i screwed it up from there.... to quit LW i killed the process in the process manager b/c closing the window didn't work (it was still on the taskbar). now when i try to run LW (by doing sh runLIme.sh) it starts going and then asks me for a folder to save files in (which i already defined in my home directory) no matter what folder i select (or if i let it do the default) i get an error : "LImeWire was unable to use the selected directory for saving files". any help would be appreciated, i have no idea what is wrong. i'm new to linux and could also use help setting up LW as a command so i can click it or simply type limewire to run it instead of the script, and saving the java classpath setting b/c everytime i run a new xterm or restart linux it seems java is 'uninstalled' (typing java gives an unkown command message). |

![]() I have the same problem, when I run LimeWire it start with the questions, I can help you with the shutdown problem there is an option in the tools-options-shutdown menu, where you can configure Lime... to shutdown even if you have something to download. The problem about "LImeWire was unable to use the selected directory for saving files" is because you don't have write permit in the folder you select, maybe the folder was created with the root account and when you try to use the folder as a regular user you don't have permit to write to that folder. I hope this can help you. If you now something about the "start questions" please mail me. mario77@bc.cablemas.com |

![]() The problem with java and starting limewire can be solved by creating a symlink to both the java executable and the limewire executable. Execute the following two commands as root from a terminal window. ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin/java /usr/bin/java and /home/your_user_name/programs/limewire/LimeWire /usr/bin/limewire where the path to java and LimeWire represent the appropriate paths to the executables on your system. As far as the problem with the save directory, it doesn't sound like a permissions issue as you said you chose a directory in your home folder. I would delete the hidden folder .limewire in your home directory. You can do this by executing the following command as root or as user, rm -rf /home/your_user_name/.limewire. The hidden directory will be recreated next time you run LimeWire and new preferences will be set hopefully fixing any errors that were present. |
