Unhappy Java Unintelligable

I got Java Installed, and when I launched the LimeWire Installer through the console, a box came up that was the installer, but there was no text in the box, and the little icon that should be in the upper right hand corner showed up as just a bunch of garbled pixels. I am running mandrake 9.0 and am a very new user. I downloaded j2sdk1.4.1_01 and did everything per the instructions at http://www.mytechperson.com/limewirelinux.html, however I did not figure out how to use the VM, and just typed the lines in manually in a console until I got it right.

Please Help!!

Thanks in advance!!

LimeWire should come with a shell script called run.sh or runLime.sh. If that doesn't work enter "java -jar RunLime.jar" in your LimeWire directory.

Default Still not there...

Thanks for your reply...

... I tried to open RunLime.sh, but it said "couldn't find the program 'runLime.sh'." It has a shortcut in the directory called 'runLimeWire', and that brings up the program, which is faulty as i said before...

... Although I am learning more every day, I am still painfully new at the whole console thing and am still not familiar enough to know exactly how to do as you suggested and "enter "java -jar RunLime.jar" in your LimeWire directory." I can locate the RunLime.jar through the explorer, but am so unfamiliar with the command prompt that I haven't figured out how to execute that...

If you'd be willing to spell it out for me, I'd be grateful... Hey we all have to start somewhere! ;o)

Thanks again!

I had the same problem on slack 8.1 when trying to install limewire. What you have to do is shut down x and run xfree86setup and set your color setting as high as it goes (I believe it's 24bit true color). Hope this works for you like it did for me.

I a terminal, go into superuser mode (su -) and type 'init 3'. That way you can run your XConfigurator. An easier way I found though, is just to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or /etc/X11/XF86Config. At the end of the file, you should have your resolution information. Here is an example of what I am running:

Code:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "NVIDIA GeForce 4 (generic)"
        Monitor "Hyundai DeluxScan 17B+"
        DefaultDepth 24
        Subsection "Display"
                Depth 24
                Modes "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection
EndSection
Some of this will of course vary depending on your hardware. Once you edit the file, just restart the X server.
