You describe a very common problem with (p-p) downloaded programs. Oftentimes there are missing files, corrupted installers, etc. That's the good news.

The bad news comes when the programs function exactly as the uploader planned: trashing or hijacking your computer, sending spam or copies of the rogue program from you to others via network or e-mail (which they'll open because it comes from you). You can end up with an obvious problem that can only be solved by purchasing software from the very people who gave you the malware, thus demanding a ransom for your computer!

There are also many who have a financial interest in discouraging p-p filesharing, by circulating malware. When it comes to sharing executable files it seems that they have won, as no one here would suggest that it is safe.

Check out the arcade on this site (see tab at top of page). They're not the fanciest games, but all are safe and we encourage friendly competition.

arrr I see , I will bare that in mind then.
unfurtunetely what you described is just what happend to my p.c. and the reason im now using my old mac.
I some how got this thing called 'security sheild' wich then started bombarding me with prompts to buy its fake security software and went on to slow my pc to a completely inoperable state antill it completely f§*%ed it, leaving me with no other option but to reinstall windows from cd and i dont have the cd. malicious ware ,yes very malicious....
all this happend within the first few weeks of getting a internet conection for the first time in my life and was a bit of a bummer. i will soon have it up and running agian and wil lbe more cuatious in the future.
thanks for explaining that , as i am new to thisi internet lark and equaly amazed and nieve to its capabilitys.
il check out the games on here.
thanks for the help (:

Sleepless might be able to give you some advice about what to watch out for on the internet and possibly also how to get your pc back in order. ukbobboy01 would also be able to advise about pc security.

thanks man .a frende of mine is driving to mytown and hopefully will bring a new disk togetmy pc back to working.
even if the people you sugested guided me through it, id probably find it inpossible , i make things , bend or chizzle wood or stone , and i genarally think that i should be able to pull out the hard drive and have a good long chat with it to talk it into working with the threat of me stamping on it as leeway. aparantlly this doesnt work.
i did find the guys view on the polital reasons for malware interesting and verry believable indeed.
if any of you would like to offer any advise on how to avoid screwing up my computer again ,once i get it back up and running it would be digested with the upmost respect.
thanks for taking the time to help me . fair thee well.
