Default constant blinking

The Limewire screen constantly blinks in mac os X. when windows are moved and everything. its just annoying and takes up time. and i can move my shared and incomplete files. i move em and they come back even though there is nothing in the preferences that say they should be there. nothing really but im a control freak and this bugs me.

Hi - I think the 'blinking screen' issue is to do with the app being based in Java. Not that this is a full-blown excuse, just a reason. This problem was certainly worse a few versions ago... I hope the developers will manage to sort this out further. (Right guys?)

Moving incomplete files while they're being downloaded isn't such a good idea. I don't think you'll suffer any seriously unpleasant effects, but from the way things generally work with this kind of app development I doubt Limewire is *able* to dynamically track files that it is trying to 'fill up' if you insist on moving them. I don't see an option in the Preferences for choosing where the 'Incomplete' folder is to be stored... but I'll bet it is automatically placed where the folder for completed files is set. See 'Saving' in the Prefs for that.

Being a control freak isn't a bad thing - but us freaks have to learn the ins and outs of OS behaviour to stay freaky *and* sane! <g> And Mac OS X sure gives us some new wrinkles to learn.

(Note to the developers: it may seem odd if you're not fully steeped in Mac thinking, but people do want to move all sorts of things around without having to worry about it. Perhaps, if dynamic file tracking isn't possible via your development tools, there could be a Read Me section whipped to tell people what they can and can't do? Just a thought.)

(Keith, why should developers have to worry about users doing silly things like moving files while they're in use? IMO the old Mac OS has caused some bad habits people need to unlearn!)

Unhappy blinking bugging me too

i too am having problems with this version blinking like crazy. it's very annoying to try and read something that blinks - albeit with an irregular frequency to boot. the original poster indicated that windows blinked. mine do too but only the bottom panel in the "search" and "monitor" windows. i don not have to move the window for the blinking to start - it just does and rate of which the flashing occurs is very irregular. the only way to get the flashing to stop is to click on a line and hold down the mouse button. once you release the mouse, the blinking will restart. the blinking will stop and then start up again and sometimes flash up to 35 times before settling down. the window will hold steady for a while and then go wild. it's anybodies guess when the next flash cycle will start....
the only observation i can bring to the table here, is that this quirky behavior seems to occur only with the dynamic part of the window is refreshed. any static info does not flash. it's as if the refresh is working overtime.
i applaud the efforts put forward with this version. it's a vastly improved version that flies for me. but i doubt if my mouse is going to survive much longer if i continue to use this version. the flashing is so annoying, i've thrown the mouse across the room three times now. i'm trying my best to look beyond this bug and just deal with it, but i'm having trouble with that, big time!!
any other observations? ...and, is this a recognized bug?

AMF,
_Matt

And the pathetic thing is that it doesn't have to be that way. Plenty of pure java apps on macosx don't blink. I've been told it has to do with mixing in awt with swing in the UI. If you simply use swing, there are no problems with this redraw bit. This is definitely something that LimeWire doesn't have to do on macosx.
