Ok.. Limewire working great. Limewire downloads my file and I'm set up to make a reference to the file in itunes. That's all well and good. But limewire automatically loads the music as itunes..so I have to open the big itunes application to play the darned things. I'd like the files to download in quicktime.

Quicktime was the player before I upgraded to itunes 3. Can anyone help me? No, itunes is not selected as the default internet player.

Just select the .mp3 file or whatever in the Finder, and hit Cmnd+I to "Show info". Select "open with application" from the drop-down menu. Click in the little square icon that should be showing iTunes, and choose QuickTime Player from the list. The icon should change to a QT icon. Open the file and see if it works... If it works okay, go back to the Finder where that file is selected and click the "Change All..." button to apply this to all your .mp3 files.
