Unhappy Limewire freezes on splashscreen

I just installed Limwire and it went fine - well, when starting up the app. it freezes on the splashscreen as it reads in "loading core components".

I've tried upgrade to the latest Java (1.4.1) and when that didn't work, downgrading to (1.3.1).

I'm running Mac OSX 10.1.6 and have run Limewire on the system earlier, but when I updated LW, the problems started.

I've tried deleting all LW-files and then install again, but it didn't helped...

I would be very happy if somebody could help, cause I like LW a lot!

Cheers!

I don't believe it is possible to downgrade from 1.4 to 1.3 on OSX.

You're using the OSX (English) link? ... Try using the OSX (Interational) one maybe.

btw--after the java update I started up in "Safe Boot" mode (hold down the shift key after a system restart) and ran disk permissions from the Disk Utility, which fixed an unusual number of permissions.

When you said 10.1.6 Chrills, did you mean 10.2.6?

It's very difficult to remove all the Java 1.4 components. Java installs a number of versions for backwards compatibility.

The Safe Boot is for OS 10.2 and later, according to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393.

You can repair some (not all) permissions in 10.1.5, but need to download the utility

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106900

Let us know if this works

Sounds like there might be a problem installing LW on OS 10.15 Does anyone know if others have successfully used the new version on 10.1.5 since the java upgrade?

There are two things you can try until the developers track this down. The first and easiest is to download the OSX version that is built directly from the CVS sources by Jens-Uwe Mager
Here's the link
http://baghira.han.de/~jum/LimeWire.html

If that gives the same trouble, try doing a clean install: Run the uninstaller, search your hard drive using Sherlock for any files called "limew" to find any old preferences that the uninstaller doesn't touch, restart your machine and download a fresh version.

Do post back to help others if you find something that works.
