Hi everyone. Whenever I try to play a Quicktime file, it always says it can't understand the file.
Another question: What exactly do they mean when it says awaiting sources? Thanks for your help |

Depends what type of files you're trying to open with QT. QT's either incompatible, lacks the appropriate codec, or the file is corrupt. Make sure you have all your QT plugins ticked in your QT prefs. And get a backup video player such as VLC (it's free!) & will play mpegs, divx, dvd's, vcd's & more.
Awaiting Sources means basically the same as Need More Sources, except you usually receive that status after you've attempted to force resume & it couldn't locate enough resources to start dwnlding. Initially force resume will search every few mins, but eventually it will give up. AS means u should manually assist it by searching for sources for it. Personally, if I use force resume, I also do a search for that file to help it to find the appropriate sources. |

You're right, I dwnlded an update just a month ago but I can't remember this issue. I just dwnlded the version from France & it's fine. It's purely an optional dwnld website you don't actually go to another website window. VLC is a European company to my understanding which is most likely why the mirror sites are mostly situated there. Not all software comes from US. A few yrs ago the best pro level audio, video & dvd apps all came from Europe until us co's bought over the rights to them (& their engineers) & now pretend that they're their creations!
So these mirror sites are what you should look at. France was fine (no it wasn't in Chinese or French!) |
