jayfess--I recall something similar once before with 10.2.8, especially after a new install of the system.

A restart didn't help: I had to shut down the computer for ~ 2 minutes (to clear the memory--especially of the temp directories), and then power up again holding down the shift key (safe boot).

Might be worth a try.

btw--re a few of the other error messages:

the "Could not find image named `bang'" is triggered by opening the "about this computer" the first time after a restart, and is harmless. (Apple finally fixed that with Panther, but left it in Jaguar)

I never did figure out what triggers the "MIG server died" message--it usually followed the beachball and a hang with Safari.
