Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Limewire messing up my router? Hi this has happend 4 times in the past couple of days (I've been doing some heavy downloading and long times of liimewire being on). I have been connected for a few hours and suddenly I get no internet connection. Power cycling the new DSL router (turning it off, unplugging the airport base station, then turning the router on and then plugging in the airport again) returns the connection. I also had one time of only one limewire connection working in the connection tab (and I had downloads going) but no other connections could be found. Power cycling fixed this also. I have had no other problems recently with my ISP or my router, or my airport, and this coincides with my use of Limewire. Any idea what this is? Last edited by Gratis; April 3rd, 2005 at 11:30 PM. |

So did you configure you firewalls as such: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml OR/AND look under apple here: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm Hope u don't use a usb connection. Not advisable 4 mac. Better is ethernet. |

Firewalls & more particularly those modems/routers with NAT firewall block a wide range of ports for incoming. So chances are you might be firewalled from anybody uplding from you ... they'd have major problems uplding from you. An easy test is to go to LW's Preferences & click for a bug report. About half way down it'll show if incoming is true or false. If true then it's fine. More details here: Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image With people uplding from you then search & downld results generally improve also. However if you prefer to freeload or leech then ignore my above advice. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=34608 |

This is neither here nor there but it's a little disturbing that people can upload from me: I have apple's firewall on with no port forwarding, and I have a base station. I get many active uploads (have two currently), however it says "false" about the "incoming" on the bug report. My question is about why my router stops working after using limewire for a long time. It sounds like this is exactly the problem. Why does my router shut off if there is too much traffic? The router doesn't actually shut off but it stops working. It's a three month old router (from the isp). This doesn't happen when I resume 50+ downloads, and it doesn't happen when I force resume 50+ "waiting for sources" downloads. It happens when I leave it on overnight with a few downloads. I have set max upload slots 5. I am frequently at max bandwidth somehow (see other post). I had no idea the router would stop working with high stress. I get the feeling someone is messing with my computer (some sort of hack or something) as it doesn't happen all the time, and doesn't seem related to bandwidth issues as I mentioned. I am perhaps being paranoid about this. The other issue is that this was happening during a couple-day period of rains in my state. It might have something to do with the router issues (but I'm not sure why). I haven't had an issue in the last day when it's been dry. Thanks for the help, Gratis |

Hmm interesting! Not sure why. I wonder if it's related to static electricity or something (just thinking out allowed.) I hope you have your comp set to never sleep overnight. That might definitely affect communication b/w router & comp. Is it USB or Ethernet & if it's USB is it USB2 or ...? The earlier G4's USB card only had very slow usb ability which could cause probs with modems/routers. |

My first thought was that it was the ISP's fault. But after the fourth time I was convinced it was Limewire. I do do a lot of heavy using (downloading 100 files). I rarely get listed as an ultrapeer. I doubt it's static electricity. Somehow something that limewire is doing is breaking my router in some way. The power cycle fixes it. It is an ethernet connection. Gratis |
