I know that solution, but installing the security update is much faster and easier, try it!

Aha! Thanks for the info Tom. Should be handy for those, like http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36368 whose java was already broken. Looks like for others a bad java was revealed by 10.3.9.

Tried that, et voilą, but the security update won't install on my HD. When I attempted to do so, the installer said that my drive didn't include any software that needed updating.

I had to manually unpack the Java and install the components manually.

Merci, mon ami!
Tom

lw 4.8.1pro couldnt be running better.

panther
10.3.9 build 7W98

powerbook 1.5, 1gb/ram

never had trouble with lw pro, tops.

if u got airport extreme u need 2:
-allow port 6346 in utilities>airportadmin
-allow same port through mac firewall
-limewire prefs>advanced>firewall>manual port>enter 6346.....

Limewire won't work with OS 10.3.9

I find the same problem. Limewire icon bounces a few times and ...nothing. I am guessing the new security updates are doing some port blocking?
Is anyone working on this? What will Tiger do to Limewire?

Call your local Apple support hotline and ask them for instructions on how to fix Java. The recent update to 10.3.9 broke Java, again, like almost every earlier update. It's easy enough to fix, but they continue to release updates that break it. If enough people complain, then maybe they'll start taking Java seriously.

Is it a joke ?

In anno domini 2005, there is no reason to call (at which cost ?) an Apple hotline who is always useless, being maintained by students reading prefabricated notices, nor to disassemble a java installer to place manually its elements.

But it seems it's not entirely the Apple fault : other programs, such edonkey 2000, are running wthout any problem.
