MacFixit reports that the 10.3.9 update breaks Java and suggests a workaround:

I finally resorted to this. Mama Mia, what a pain! You have to change permissions add nauseam to move things into place. A small shortcut I found is to check the info on each folder containing things you are considering moving first and compare it with the equivalent old one with things to be replaced. If they are the same, skipping them saves time, and mine is working.

The other things (SecUpd2005-002, JavaUpdateforMacOSXv10.3.9) got me able to launch Limewire again, but after time it always became too unresponsive

After further testing, Limewire Pro 4.8.1 is obviously still unresponsive after time, but definitely seems less so and I am getting quite a bit more downloads. For me it was probably worth it despite the extraordinary bother, but still has not really solved the problem.

i have a powermac g4 dual 1.25ghz proccessors and im running 10.3.9

Ok, now i have tried everything in this thread and related to this thread... java isnt broken (i dont think) because when i go into terminal and type java -version i get this

java version "1.4.2_05"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_05-141.4)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-38, mixed mode)

i then got both security updates and restarted my computer and limewire still wont work... i then deleted limewire and all of its components and reinstalled it... limewire is still not working.

the exact problem with limewire is when i open it up, i get the "please wait while limewire initializes" and it closes by itself... no "Unexpectedly quit" screen pops up or anything.

if someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
