Which exact Limewire version are you using ... which Mac and which Java... I had this problem as did a few others.

G3 Blue and White OSX10.3.9 Java I.4.2_09 Problems for me started with the Limewire containing the Junk filter .. a coincidence or not I do not know .. but just mentioned as a reference. I use a special Limewire 4.10.0 which I will introduce you to if you need it
