Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default re: a couple of questions

Adam,

>A couple of questions for users having these problems:

>1) Are you using the same save directory in this version that you used with >the last one?

yes, a folder on the desktop

>2) The last version that worked so well for you was 2.1.2 or another? Do you remember?

it would have been whatever the most recent rev before 2.1.3 was that version tracker alerted me about - can't tell you exactly

>3) Are you sharing on a drive different from your main hard drive?

no, only one measly 20gig drive on my rig

>Thanks.

you're welcome

to illustrate the intermittancy of the problem, last night I could download two mp3s and another 10Mb file, very fast and no problem, all at the same time.

This morning, it's still working good.

at other times I'll try for hours with no success. all other apps (IE, Entourage v.X, Eudora, Transmit, Dreamweaver) work fine.

I'll try to watch what is happening more closely, but things are real simple here, just me and my cable modem. Maybe the fact that Comcast is transitioning from the Excite servers to their own as we speak has something to do with it.

as soon as downloads become more reliable I'll go Pro, that's a promise.

Default Limewire 2.1.3 for MacOS X also deletes downloads

Hi,

I am using LimeWire 2.1.3 on a 350 MHz G4 running MacOS 10.1.2 with 448 MB RAM, connecting via broadband internet access as an Ultrapeer.

My problem is that Limewire seems to randomely delete downloads in progress or the download is marked completed but the associated file is gone. This seems to be a common problem as it has happend to me quite often recently.

For example: Two downloads were 63% and 88% complete when suddenly the Progressindicator went back to zero. I checked my incomplete folder and the files are gone. Another time the d/l was going smoothly according to the progress indicator, but when I checked, there had been no file created by limewire. On a other ocassion I resumed a d/l but instead of appending it erased the original and started with 0%.

This mostly happens with rather large files (100MB+), but is also happening with smaller files.

I then checked, via Sherlock, to see whether the files were just misplaced by LimeWire or invisible, but to no avail.

Needless to say this behaviour disturbs me a little as I fear for my data's integrity.

Best Regards,

Sam

P.S.: I think you guys are doing a great job otherwise.

Unhappy New (Old) Version, Still Problematic

AFisk,

In answer to you questions:
1) Yes, I am using the same directory. It is a folder on my desktop.

2) I am not sure, but if I remeber correctly, the last version I had was 1.7. IF this make no sense, then disregard it. I do know that the last version I had that worked did not prompt for upgrading to Pro and did not have ads on the bottom of the window.

3) Nope. Not sharing on a different drive.

I downloaded 2.1.2 from the link you provided. I have not noticed any obvious bugs as of yet, but have not run it through its paces yet. I have noticed that, unfortunately, the download failure rate is the same as it was with 2.1.3. (Download failure rate is in the high 90% range).

Anyone know where I can get an even older version of Limewire? My wife uses the computer primarily for music downloads and investigation of songs before she buys CD's. She finally noticed yesterday that Limewire isn't working anymore. The clock is ticking for me now and my domestic tranquility is in some small amount of peril. Please help.

Cooperatively,
Craig

This seems to be the thread to post under:

My system: Titanium g4 500mhz, 512 ram, 20gig hd, without partitions, dsl, norton personal firewall (with ping protection enabled).

Only one user and I have admin access. I installed Limewire in HD --> applications, and save files in "shared" file in the limewire folder. I assume this is the standard method of using LW. I have been using limewire since 1.7, updating whenever I see a new non-beta version on the site.

I have made no changes to LW regarding hosts.

Bugs on 2.1.3:

1. Options preferences not saved (have had this problem on and off on all the new releases after 1.7) -- I choose "four stars," "cable or higher," "no LW mp3 player," "max downloads 12," hit "apply" and then "ok." These changes return to default when I choose quit from menu. Putting the "connections" button in the menu bar, also doesn't save.

-- How are you supposed to quit limewire? Are you supposed to choose "close?" This just hides lw in the dock. Are you supposed to choose "quit" from the menu?

2. Other preferences don't hold within the program -- column sizes/order.

3. Redrawing is better in 2.1.3 than the previous release, but still way worse than 1.7.

4. "Could not download" messages on many of my downloads. This actually doesn't seem out of the ordinary from previous issues (perhaps occuring a tad more frequently).

5. Downloads frequently just hang (either at start, or midway through a download) at 0kb/sec. This seems to happen more often if I put LW in the dock, or keep it in the background while I work in other applications (os X internet applications, or realplayer running in classic for example). "Resume" download doesn't affect these files.

I would like a button in addition to the "kill download" one -- "stop download," "pause download," or "refresh download."

6. We need an "on deck" window, where files go after you choose them from the search menu. This window would remember file names and IPs. You would then select files from this window when you actually wanted to download them. This way you could easily retry downloads. It would also let you "remember" multiple files from the same IP, so that several files were all not vying for the "busy" host.

7. When you quit limewire, all the files you carefully searched for and queued to download, disappear. I would like all the files in that lower frame to be saved until the next session, not just the ones currently downloading.

peace

Default 2.1.3 crashes constantly (reproducible)

Post title pretty much says it. Limewire was pretty stable in the last relese I ran (2.1.0 - I used to run it with 35 ultrapeer connections and it would last a day or more), but has suddenly gone downhill.

I am running on a dual-G4 800MHz running OSX.1.2

Crashes generally happen under heavy load, such as when I "select all" in a 200-result search and click "download". Crashes also occur spontaneously, though less often than when i am trying to download.

My only thought is that this might be a memory error - I only have 256MB of RAM, and the large number of threads used by LimeWire might suck enough memory overhead to cause a problem, especuially due to the excessive (?) number of connections I keep up.

Ideas?

<note> This is a repost from another thread, since this seems to be the only thread to get replies. </note>
